Cell phones and driving is a big problem especially for teen drivers because it’s a huge distraction for us. If you text or call while driving you not only put yourself at risk of death, but others on the road as well! This is a problem for teens especially because us teens are new to driving and we have less understanding of consequences of a car crash (insurance increases, injury, lawsuits, even death.) Most adults would say it’s because teens have the attitude of thinking they’re invincible, which is true speaking as a teenager myself, but not all teenagers are like that. That means that seven teens ages 16 to 19 died every day from motor vehicle injuries. Young people ages 15-24 represent only 14% of the U.S. population. However, they account for 30% ($19 billion) of the total costs of motor vehicle injuries among males and 28% ($7 billion) of the total costs of motor vehicle injuries among females.
AAA Campaign group aims to pass texting while driving bans in all 50 states by 2013. “The AAA legislative push to enact texting while driving bans is supported by new research released today by the Auto Club of Southern California showing that the texting while driving ban implemented in California in January 2009 appears to be reducing texting by drivers.”
