Teen Date Rape
What is date rape?
When people think of rape, people think of someone trying to attack them. Truth be told, most victims of rape know the suspect. This is known as date rape — forced sex that occurs at a party or on a date with someone the victim may know, like, or even be interested in or dating. Females are more likely to be raped, but it can also happen to males as well. Not only men commit rape; but in rare cases women commit rape, too. Being good friends, talking to someone, dating, and even hooking up someone up usually doesn’t result to violence or rape; but it could happen at any given moment. It is always best to be prepared in case something like this were to happen. Here are two key things people should know about rape:
• The person who was raped is not to blame. The rapist is the one to blame. People usually don’t ask for sex because of the clothes they wear or the way they carry themselves. If sex is being forced against someone’s self-control, then it is considered rape. Even if two people are married or dating, you are never obligated to sex.
• Rape is not about sex or desire. Forced sex is an act of assault or violent behavior. Rape has nothing to do with loving a person. Healthy and positive relationships are about respect and loving someone. If someone really cared about you they wouldn’t pressure

If you don’t feel comfortable with the person, then don’t invite them to your house or anywhere near your house. You can also prevent date rape if you don’t drink any alcoholic beverages or use any drugs. If a person is going out with friends late at night, they should stay in close contact with their friends and don’t sit they’re drink down without watching it. If you leave a table with your drink sitting there throw it away and simply purchase another. Don’t let peer pressure push you into something you aren’t willing to

Education is a crucial part of the decision making process that we use every day, whether it be something as simple as choosing what to wear or as complex as making life altering choices, one of which is date rape. If someone goes on a date that does not mean that they want to have sex with you, being on a date does not give you consent to have sex with the other individual. Because a person must give their verbal consent and they should have the choice whether or not they want to proceed with any act under their own will.…

Sexual assault continues to be a problem in the United States, with the rates of sexual assault being higher in college women than any other category. In Jozwoski’s and Peterson’s report “College Students and Sexual Consent: Unique Insights” they analyze the way college students perceive and respond to sexual advances. They conducted this study by taking 185 college students and asking them a number of open ended questions that provided insight to how they responded to sexual advances, how they let their partner know that they are willing to have sex, and what ‘sexual consent’ means to them. When examining the answers, four themes emerged (Joswoski & Peterson, 2012): (a) endorsement of the traditional sexual script; (b) women are responsible for performing oral sex; (c) men’s consent to sex can be aggressive; and (d) men utilize deception to obtain consent to sex.…

Rape leads into my next argument, abuse. When a mother conceives a baby she is not ready for, or simply does not want, abuse is sometimes a “way out” for her. A parent may physically, mentally and emotionally abuse their child. A child never deserves to be beaten but being abused is better than never existing at all. A young being has the chance to grow in and out of their abusive life in later years. Every abused child should suck it up and suffer the pain until reaching years of freedom.…

When a woman has sex with a man and does not want it, when she acts under compulsion, Feminists argue that this is rape. Morgan states “Rape exists any time sexual intercourse occurs when it is not being initiated by the woman out of her own genuine affection and desire.” Feminists claim that sure they may not be under the threat of a knife to the throat but they are nonetheless threatened and as such these situations can be called rape. Such acts may not fall under the same umbrella as what is known as traditional rape, it is rape just the same.…

Date Rape Rape is defined as when one person wants and pursues a sexual act on, to or inside another person who does not want to participate, and who does not fully and freely consent to take part in that act. People usually associate rape as forced sex by a stranger. This is sometimes true, but not in all cases. When someone is raped by someone they already know this is called date rape. Date rape, or acquaintance rape, is very common. Acquaintance, date, and spousal rape is dramatically more prevalent than stranger rape. About 84% of all rape victims knew their attackers prior to the event and that among victims 18 to 29 years old, two-thirds had a prior relationship with the rapist. Alcohol and drugs are often involved in rape. There are certain types of drugs commonly used in rapes called date rape drugs. They are used because drugs like these can be easily mixed in drinks to make a person black out and forget things. These drugs include GHB,…

The major component of all sexual assault is the presence of unwanted sexual advances perpetrated through an offender's physical handling of the victim. This physical handling can range from touching or groping to aggravated rape. Sexual assault is most often committed by force, and the victim is always an unwilling participant. Sexual assault is never primarily about sex; it is about an offender exercising power, aggression, and violence against an unwilling victim. Offenders may be strangers, acquaintances, family members, or even spouses or partners.…

Statutory rape is a strict liability crime. It is defined as “sex between an adult and a minor below the age of consent at the time the offense takes place” (Uslegal.com). This also includes persons who lack the ability of consenting to sex because of physical and mental incapabilities. The Model Penal Code lists Statutory Rape as, “male who has sexual intercourse with a female not his wife, or any person who engages in deviate sexual intercourse or causes another to engage in deviate sexual intercourse, is guilty of an offense if:(a) the other person is less than [16] years old and the actor is at least [four] years older than the other person; or (b)the other person is less than 21 years old and the actor is his guardian or otherwise responsible…

This is a common result as to how date rape or acquaintance rape can happen. This is a big problem with college campuses worldwide. Women are the main targets, but men are not excluded. It’s a known fact that half of all people who are raped know the person who attacked them. It could simply be your best friend that you’ve known for many years. There are a couple ways to avoid the date rape situation: these include not going to parties alone or that you’re unfamiliar with, not letting your drink out of your sight or accepting a drink from someone else, and if you’re going to drink or do drugs limit your intake. The more you drink the more likely you are to become a victim of date rape.…
