The other way segal further explains is by using the best friend a student say that they had to “Stay up because there best friend boyfriend broke up with her” or “she had to take her best friend to the hospital” (Segal, 461) this are the two major categories talked about has to the fact of way Segal doesn’t have a great deal of papers turned in on time. Segal has stated that she knows the majority of the students excuses are made up either because the student didn’t do it, and or they may have a legit reason although she can’t check behind them. Segal later stated some of her students wonder way they don’t receive the grade to pass the class because they truly didn’t put in the work or time. “Even some of the students said the printer didn’t work or it printed ink all over the paper” (Segal, 462).
In Laird essay she explains the effects of online teaching in the excuses she gets to reason why her assignment aren’t turned in on time. Laird states that doesn’t have the heart to continue to teach online. She further details the way online teaching can be difficult for her and the students. “Laird also points out the student believe the actual syllabus is like a restaurant they try to put in chose which assignments they won’t to complete at the due” (Laird, 461) Laird says that although hearing many different reason for assignments not being turned in she does enjoy teaching the course but just wants to remain in a physical classroom, although the student act has if they don’t to or have to turn it in it makes a major difference in getting help for the subject as a whole. Laird and Segal were both English instructors that were veterans of the subject and they were both publish in their local paper called the chronical in 2000 and in 2003 which most teacher use as their source of communication. They both also used humor as a position to get there points across in the essays Laird showed us how technology as changed the entire way of teaching weather using and online program to use everyday technology
