Technology Exposed In Ray Bradbury's Use Of Technology
From the beginning of the story we see the abuse of technology as the table cuts Peter’s meat for him, it a chain of causality, letting the fully automated house do everything, destroying their family bond. So broken that technology took the parenting role as it was the one providing, comforting and teaching. The story gives no specific year but it’s evident that it’s in the future. I think the lack of info on the time gives us the feeling that it’s talking about present day with society being so absorbed in technology and social media now, this is also a common trait in Bradbury’s work. Talking about the African Veldt, when you think of nursery you usually think of a safe place for a child and be cared for. Yet instead the nursery becomes a dangerous and like a weapon twisted into anything the children envision, that’s irony. Bradbury once again flips our expectations to have us see the dark side of things. Dangers also evident in the power of the imagination, the children create a reality that preys on their parents.

They were given everything possible, unlimited access to their imagination, their hearts desires all in one room, care and nurture but not from their parent. Like many kids at one point they dreamed up a place with no rules, no adults and the want to be free to never grow up is understandable. Even at 10 they are growing up fast going to the carnival alone and asking to go to NY. But the stories endings are much different, in Peter Pan the kids want to go back home to their parent but in The Veldt the children rebel against their parents. In changing the story Bradbury reveals a darker twist to the story. The room embodies their childhood and the lions could represent their anxiety and fear of growing up, so they lash out by having the very thing that scares them kill their
