Technology: Ecology and Technological Progress
In today’s modern world, technological progress is important for countries to develop and improve for the benefit of mankind. It is undeniable that technological progress has contributed greatly to the development of countries across the world.
On the other hand, technological progress has also caused ecological imbalance and ruin the environment in today’s world. Due to vast development of land and road constructions, many forests has been destroyed and replaced by concrete jungles. Construction of infrastructure causes ecological problems like disturbance in the natural setting of the environment, interruption in the natural drainage system, soil erosion, landslides and loss of natural sources of water. Many habitats are also affected due to deforestation for urban development and agricultural purposes.
Intense industrialization in developed and developing countries has also caused environmental pollution, depletion of the ozone level and the dumping of toxic waste into the rivers and drainage systems. In certain places, there has been proven data that toxic wastes has seriously affected people’s health, inflicting cancer and breathing problems due to long term exposures.
In the advent of modern technology, man has the influence to create a balance in the ecology in order to sustain his continuous survival. However, this has been neglected along the way in the pursuit of technological advancement. Fortunately, there are many organizations and non profitable bodies available worldwide to create the awareness on the importance of maintaining ecological balance and to salvage whatever harm that has been done earlier.
