TEACHING GUIDE

1. OBJECTIVES At the end of the class, students should be able to * Identify four main types of hazards to health and safety. * Explain the various routes of entry that chemical and biological hazards use to enter the human body. * Describe the short-term and long-term effects that hazards can have on an individual’s health and safety. * Identify types of environmental hazards. * Describe the short-term and long term effects of hazards on the environment.

2.1 TOPIC Types of Hazards and Their Effects (Chapter 2)
2.2 REFERENCE Safety, healthy, environment/CAPT.
2.3 INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS PowerPoint Presentation

3. PROCEDURES 3.1. OPENING PRAYER (To be led by one of the students.) 3.2. SIMPLE RECALL/REVIEW 3.3. INTRODUCTION OF THE SUBJECT MATTER 3.3.1. MOTIVATION The instructor will prepare a game to motivate the students to become aware and familiar in the types of hazards and the effects of it.
Games: “Charades”
Instructions of the Game * Form two groups. Each group will assign one representative who will act on front. The instructor will prepare some words that related to the topic then each group need to guess the word in two minutes. Who will be team that have a faster time to guess it will win.

3.3.2. PRESENTATION The instructor will present the topic by power point presentation. This is the following outline for the discussion: * Introduction * Hazards Overview
This chapter provides an overview of various workplace hazards that process technicians might encounter. Each hazardous substance is briefly described, along with potential short-term and long-term effects.
