One of my goals is to promote healthy habits. To establish and maintain a healthy environment is to prevent the spread of germs and promote healthy eating habits. Germs can be easily spread among the age group of children in my care, because they are in close contact with each other. One of the ways I promote a healthy environment is hand washing. I wash my hands and wear gloves before and after handling food, helping with toileting, changing diapers and cleaning noses. I have the children wash their hands during similar times and ensure that they do it properly. Cleaning and sanitizing play areas daily and mouthed toys are immediately removed from the play area and sanitized at the end of the day. I teach the children about healthy eating on a daily basis. At lunch and snack time we talk about the healthy foods and not so healthy foods that they are eating and what food is best for their growing bodies. I have two weeks of lesson…

As a group we discussed different ideas and learning outcomes and agreed on that we will do a display on personal hygiene, specifically highlighting the importance of children washing their hands in order to eliminate germs and illnesses. This is a very important on-going issue that children need to be aware of. The display would have images and drawings showing when we should wash our hands and what would happen if we do not. The display will help with their fine motor skills when they are using materials to create drawings and materials, for example using scissors to cut out images, their creativeness while drawing images and their communication skills when they talk about what they think germs and viruses look like and what we need to do to eliminate them. It will also help them develop IT skills when they learn to use the internet to download image, in accordance with the school’s IT policy. This display will be aimed at children in primary school.…

Life style patterns and behaviors affect our health along with economic and social structure. According to our text (Williams / Torrens 2010, alcohol, tobacco and illicit drug use create a snow ball of problems that affect our health. Excessive alcohol use creates cirrhosis of the liver, if alcohol is consumed while driving or prior to driving it causes vehicular accidents and work related injuries if consumed prior to or during work. Last week I spoke with a 20 year old male who stated his anger escalates after he consumes alcohol. He also stated his father was killed at a night club by someone that consumed excessive alcohol. These actions affect our society because they can create an increase in violent crimes and an increase in homicide and violence incidence. Cigarette use is another behavior that is associated with numerous illness, including cardiovascular disease, lung cancer, and oral cancer. Government intervention has reduced consumption and reduced illnesses associated with the use of tobacco and piper smoking.…

In order to establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I first begin with providing a clean and organized classroom. All toys and equipment are sanitized on a daily basis, all outlets are covered and all fixtures are mounted to the walls to prevent from tipping over. Upon entering the classroom every parent is required to sign a daily health check in which the teacher and the parent both assess the health of each child. Healthy meals and snacks are provided to each and every child, keeping in mind, the allergies that each child has. Medicines are also carried for each student that requires it on a daily basis. The classroom tables are wiped down and sanitized and the floor is swept after each meal. The children also brush their teeth after meals to help the children gain healthy brushing habits. The teacher child ratio is maintained at all times.…

Health awareness rises when effective means of correspondence are adopted (Kinzie, 2005). Promotion of the maintenance and use of latrines, washing of hands and appropriate food handling have advantages that function admirably with the control of STH diseases. It is advisable to include health education in STH control programmes if the health education message can be provided in an easy and cheap way. Health education messages can be delivered by teachers in schools thereby implementing changes in health behaviour in children. With health education, there are often challenges because suggested solutions are usually too costly or unavailable in rural or poverty stricken areas(Mascie-Taylor et al., 1999). The efficiency of health education in increasing health awareness may vary place to place. (Guanghan et al., 2000; Lansdown et al.,…

They say that school is our second home. We agree because we spend five days of the week here and it is very important to make sure that the place we are in is clean. But we realized that if the other students will see the values of cleaning, maybe they will be alarmed and they will be able to realize that they should do the same thing that we do: clean…
