In the short tale “Garden of Forking Paths”, magical realism is shown through the new perspective of time. This new perspective was shown in a book within the short story. The book was described to be a maze. Ts’ui Pen, author of the novel, suggested a reality totally different from everyone else’s. So different and out of proportion that his family wanted nothing to do with his work. They even cursed the monk who published it. For these reasons, the magical realism of the story is time. Time is non contradictory aspect of practical reality, yet in this tale, time is limitless and every possibility is fulfilled. Stephen Albert further explains, “there is an infinite series of time, in a growing, dizzying net of divergent, convergent, and parallel times” (9). This concept of time would be unfathomable, but magical realism helps the reader realize this new perspective on the reality of time.…

Time is an unchangeable factor of life across Tywkers 1998 classic motion picture, Run Lola, Run. Time has the power to change the outcome of every little event throughout the movies entirety. The first sound we hear is the ticking of an old grandfather clock, this compliments the opening scenes where we see a cartoon version of Lola running through ticking clocks. The repetition of the tick, tick, tick adds emphasis to the motif that is time, and how it controls the future events in the movie. The race against time is one of the predominant themes in Run Lola, Run and this is shown by Tywker where he sets three individual runs set at 20 minutes each. If Lola gets there to her location too late, both her and Manni rob a supermarket and Lola ends up being shot shortly after. In the second run she arrives a few seconds too late and Manni is the one whom dies. In the third and final run, Lola reaches Manni in time. This leads the pair away from robbing the supermarket as Lola has obtained the needed money through a casino. Tywkers used the theme of time through techniques to allow a further understanding of the fixed nature of time, and how it can’t be modified to suit the needs of anyone, no matter what the outcome will be.…

Players can assemble and paint individual, 28 millimetre (approximately 1 inch) scale miniature figures that represent futuristic soldiers, creatures and vehicles of war. These figurines are collected to compose squads in armies that can be pitted against those of other players. Each player brings a roughly equal complement of units to a tabletop battlefield with handmade or purchased terrain. The players then decide upon a scenario, ranging from simple skirmishes to complex battles involving defended objectives and reinforcements. The models are physically moved around the table and the actual distance between models plays a role in the outcome of combat. Play is turn-based, with various outcomes determined by tables and the roll of dice. Battles may last anywhere from a half-hour to a whole weekend, and battles may be strung together to form campaigns. Many game and hobby stores host games, and official tournaments are held on a regular basis, such as the Throne of Skulls.…

To my way of thinking, CS has many advantages. To begin with, it is cheaper than the traditional ways of travel. In our youth, we usually want more experiences and adventures. But as college students, we don’t have much budget for our travel. Luckily, we can choose CS. We sleep at the hosts’ couches (sometimes they’ll provide a bed), and it is totally free of charge. Thus we can go to the places we never thought we could afford to. Furthermore, CS can not only broaden one’s horizon by travel but also it contributes to let one makes more friends from all over the world by chatting with them. It is mutual, and both the travelers and the hosts can benefit from it. They get to know people in other parts of the world and many different cultures. Moreover, CS is a true social network; it is real and it provides us a platform to understand the true spirit of travel --- that is to connect with nature and the people there and share.…
