Tangled and Repunzel
Tangled and “Rapunzel”
One would believe that a movie based on a storybook would have the same plot. In comparing and contrasting the movie Tangled to the short story “Rapunzel”, one can find many differences and very few similarities. Tangled was developed by Disney and has grossed 590 million dollars in the first year; however, “Rapunzel” is only a folk tale handed down through the years until it was finally written down in the 1800s. This is only the beginning of the differences. Looking closely at the plots, one can definitely see there is a difference in the two. In the following paragraph, the expositions of the movie Tangled and the short story “Rapunzel” will be compared and contrasted. In Tangled the parents were rich and lived in a kingdom. On the other hand, in “Rapunzel”, the parents were very poor and lived in a small house. In Tangled, Mother Gothel kidnapped Rapunzel for her magic gift, and kept her locked up in a tower and wouldn't let her leave. Every year on Rapunzel’s birthday, her parents, the king and queen, would light lanterns in the sky. They were hoping that one day, their lost princess would once again return. In “Rapunzel”, her parents practically traded her to Mother Gothel for stealing from her magic garden. Also in Tangled, Rapunzel’s hair is magic. Her hair glows and can turn a very old lady, to the youngest, and prettiest woman. In “Rapunzel”, her hair isn't magic or anything like that, it’s just very, very long. Now, we will be discussing the rising actions of the two stories. We will basically be stating their differences and similarities. In the movie Tangled, the guy that took her on her amazing journey was a poor thief. He was being chased, when he saw a mysterious tower. He then climbed that tower and that’s how he met Rapunzel. In contrast, in the short story “Rapunzel”, he was a prince who heard her singing. He went searching for her, because her beautiful singing softened his heart. In Tangled, Mother Gothel is evil and

There are many differences and summaries between the book and the movie the coronals of Narnia the lion, witch and wardrobe. For example; “In the movie, they crossed that river (jumping over ice bergs, Megrim confronting them on the river, etc), while I'm pretty sure that in the book they didn't cross it, but walked along it or something... can't fully recall. Also, I'm pretty sure in the book they were only confronted by Megrims once after Edmund betrayed them (when Peter fought him), but in the movie there was also the aforementioned confrontation on the river.…

There are a lot of differences the two stories have to one another. In the book King Hrothgar seems as if he would be more put together and a gentleman but in the book he is a drunk and messy man. In the book they make Grendel react to the word of God and that is what angers him and makes him want to kill and destroy the hall. In the movie he attacks because the loud music hurts his ears, and that makes him shrink if it gets too loud which is how Beowulf was able to cut off his arm and kill Grendel in the movie. Another difference that was very noticed was that in the movie Grendel’s mother is very sexy and seductive and she convinces Beowulf to sleep with her and have a child and he will have all power and the whole Kingdom of Denmark, which is what had happened to Hrothgar too. Which means that Grendel was actually Hrothgar’s son that he created when he was seduced by Grendel’s Mother when he went to kill her. In the book that never happened, he actually killed Grendel with the sword that Unferth had given him. The movie added a lot of different details to make the story much more interesting and adding a sexy monster definitely grabbed the people’s attention. Especially if Angelina Jolie played Grendel’s Mother's…

‘Disney restyles ‘Rapunzel’ to appeal to boys’ is an article written by Dawn.C Chmielewski and Claudia Eller, writers of Los Angeles Times. As this article is published in Los Angeles Times, its main audience would be the general public. In this article, Chmielewski and Eller (2010) argue about how Disney directors are changing the name of ‘Rapunzel’ to less gender-specific titles to draw in a bigger audience. While I feel that Chmielewski and Eller have provided a refreshing insight of how the title of a movie could have a significant impact on ticket sales, the evidence provided is unsubstantial, unreliable and self-contradictory.…

Princess and the pea didn’t have a bipolar for a stepfather. Can you see it? Her in her royal pink nightdress, awakened by the turbulence of shotgun shells atop the tile floor. A shotgun makes more of an impact than you think, but if she is pestered by a pea, I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t have survived this story. Sometimes I wonder if the tickling in my back in the morning is that shell reminding me that if it was a little more keen I probably either wouldn’t be here or writing this by the air pulses id blow into a straw like Christopher reeves. Irregardless – my stepfather is lucky his actions only resulted in a puncture wound in my king size mattress after chucking a rock at the passing car on the dirt road near my house. If I was to ask him why he decided a 12 gauge shotgun was the best solution to a neighborhood speeder, he would ask me to shut up and find the remote control. This story must be released from my memory because I can’t get over the mechanics of it.…

All her life, Rapunzel is locked away in a castle by a woman who she believes is her mother. Her “mother” is keeping her from the outside world, preventing Rapunzel from having any type of human relationship with anyone except for her. But, the relationship between two family members (or so Rapunzel thinks anyways), is very different than the relationship between a man and woman. Since she is locked in a tower with just this woman who has convinced her that she is her mother, Rapunzel is completely prevented from, not only seeing the outside world, but also is prevented from finding the true love between man and woman that God has set out for all of us to find.…

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a wonderful example of a fictional fantasy. It is adventurous, full of magic, talking animals, a witch, mythical creatures, and not to mention children entering another world through a wardrobe. The author was very descriptive when talking about what the characters look like, their behaviors, and each setting that the characters were in. So much so that it could be easily pictured by the reader exactly what they characters were doing and their surrounding at that time. For instance, at one point three of children were traveling with Mr. and Mrs. Beaver to the stone table and they entered into a small cave like hole and the description led me to picture the five packed into a small area like sardines…

Most Americans could say that they have at least heard of Cinderella and her fairy godmother. In the German Version of Cinderella, “Aschenputtel,” there is no Fairy godmother. In “Aschenputtel,” Cinderella’s mother tells her “Dear child, remain pious and good, and then our dear God will always protect you, and I will look down on you from heaven and be near you." Later in the story Cinderella asks her father to bring home the first twig that brushes his hat. When given the twig Cinderella takes it to her mother’s grave and it grows into a magnificent tree. Cinderella then prays under the tree and pigeons and turtledoves bring Cinderella anything she wishes. These birds represent Cinderella’s mother’s spirit watching over her poor daughter. Animals, such as birds and mice, also appear in the Disney classic, but are more aides then guardians to Cinderella. These animals are introduced as humorous instead of saviors in the Disney version. The animals help her clean the house and do chores. Later on they also are transformed into steeds and drivers to take Cinderella to the ball. These differences give each story its lighter and darker feelings and dynamics affecting the readers’ emotions towards the animals and Cinderella.…

In the Fairy tale version of “Aladdin” Aladdin is kind of a creepy guy spying on the princess and falling in love with her as he is spying on her and he also declares that they will be together. The fairy tale shows a creepy side about Aladdin and than the movie version makes Aladdin look like prince charming. Both the movie and the fairy tale version of Aladdin are way different from each other. The only thing that is the same in each story is the characters but than they do not have the same characteristic features. In the fairy tale version of Aladdin is characterized more of a creep because he grants a wish from the genie asking him to bring the princes and Grand Vizier’s son to his chamber and than he tells the genie to take the Vizier’s son away so that he could be alone with the princess and like he tells the princess not to be afraid they would be together and get married and she was scared of him. In the Disney version of Aladdin it shows him out in the streets and he comes across the princess and falls in love with her. After he falls in love the Vizier Jafar finds out and throws Aladdin in jail were he thinks Aladdin will prosper and change his mind. But than Aladdin gets out and reunites with princes once again.…

Hair can be straight, long, short, frizzy, or curly; with different colors and textures, but in the case of “Rapunzel” it was golden and very, very long in which it took the audience to a deeper understanding of who she really was. Her hair in a way represented distress and at the same time freedom in which she strived from living in an enchanted tower in the middle of the forest. The story of “Rapunzel” is sought to be one of the most recognized fairy tales for children and parents alike. As a result the Grimm Brothers’ first version of “Rapunzel” was later revised to better reflect their critic’s choice. Fairy tale stories are mainly known by children but in fact they were destined for adults. While most critics say that the fairy tale “Rapunzel” is a children’s bedtime story it reveals that it has adult themes and that it is not merely for younger audiences but for older viewers.…

    Beauty and the Beast

The very popular children’s movie “Beauty and the Beast” was originally a fairy tale written by Jeanne-Marie LePrince de Beaumont. While the movie holds true to many of the themes displayed in the fairy tale, it falls short in other aspects. In the original fairy tale, the deal between the merchant and Beast is that one of the merchants daughter die in place of the merchant. However in the Disney movie the deal that takes place between Belle and Beast is only that Belle stays in the castle as his prisoner instead of her father. I feel that this takes away from the overall drama of the fairy tale as death seems a much harsher fate than being held prisoner in a mansion. This is of course excluding the fact that Beast never actually intended on killing Belle, although we don’t know what fate would have had in store for the merchant if Belle didn’t volunteer to die in her father’s place.…
