During the 1960s, the psychologist Michael Kirton began to explore a dimension of thinking which helped to explain some of the different ways in which people approach decision making, problem solving and creativity, and their reactions to different working environments.

He developed a questionnaire called the Kirton Adaption-Innovation Inventory (KAI) which measures where an individual’s thinking style is located on this dimension.

The people whose scores fall towards one end of his dimension he called innovators and those scores fall towards to the other he called adaptors. There is a continuous contribution of scores between these two extremes.

Adaptors do it better, innovators do it differently

After watching the video of “The 5 Skills”, I would have to say that I am not an innovator, the reason that I am saying this is because I am not a creative person to think of things in such a way or what type of questions to ask. I would be askign questions, but at the same time I would still be questioning myself wondering if I am asking the right ones. In regards to possessing innovative skills, I believe I don’t know have any, but that is asking myself, that doesn’t not mean others may think different or see that I do have any innovative skills. I guess the one innovative skill that I may have would be asking “questioning” that is because I can ask a lot of questions, whether they are dumb or the right ones, I am not afraid to ask questions. I believe I would have to acquire the other four skills in order to be a great innovator. Without them I know as an innovator I would be successful. Once I learn more about the five skills and how they are a asset in order to be a great innovator, then I would put the 5 skills in place as I plan for any kind of innovation in order to have a great product. All 5 skill are important steps and if they are not practice then you will not be a great innovator.…

    Leadership Statement

I seek to become a person who exemplifies truthfulness, understanding, and creativity. I seek situations that are devoid of these values, and use myself as an example of these qualities in action to bring about the change I came to implement. These values are basic categories from Rath’s (2007) StrengthsFinders 2.0 inventory, as well as the characteristics of an ethical leader from Covey’s (1991) treatise of the ideal leader. The findings from Rath’s assessment reveal that ideation, intellection, adaptability, restorative, and strategic are my strengths. Ideation is the trait that calls for me to connect themes between disparate phenomena, and a fascination about generating ideas (Rath, 2007, StrengthsFinder 2.0, p. 113). Intellection describes my introspective nature in addition to my longing and appreciation of intellectual discussion (Ibid, p. 129). Adaptability refers to my capacity to be flowing with occurrences in life, with very little attachment to the fruition of expectations (Ibid, p. 45). My restorative strength alludes to my natural problem solving capability, and my desire to decipher what is ill of a situation (Ibid, p. 153). Lastly, my assessment informed that I am strategic in finding relevant patterns and issues, and finding alternative ways to proceed in a given scenario (Ibid, p. 165).…
