Synthesis Essay: The Design Of The Washington Monument

The Washington Monument was not an easy monument to build causing many people to reobserve their first decisions; its purpose has been to memorialize President George Washington at the nation’s capital center. Not to recently there were worries about the Washington Monument not being reopened, just like they had worries about George Washington not being able to get back from being depressed from when he would get ill. He got ill often he has had all the following sickness at least one some several times: diphtheria, malaria, smallpox, tuberculosis, malaria, dysentery, quinsy, carbuncle, pneumonia, epiglottitis. The designer of the Monument was all from the mind of Robert Mills, and architect("The Washington Monument"). The designer though doesn’t make the Monument possible, it’s the construction and builders that had made it happen. The Washington Monument was later completed by Thomas Casey along with the help of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers(¨The Washington Monument¨). With all of the problems coming with the Washington Monument actually started being built in 1848 but came to a halt soon after in 1854(¨The Washington Monument¨). The very first thought of the Washington Monument came about the first day that he had been elected and took on the title president. George Washington shot the idea down quickly when he found out the amount of money it would take to built his monument. That’s when the ideas started rolling in. Many people had created ideas of how the government could get money to build his monument but one of the ideas is what really stood out to them. The way that they had decided to try and raise the money was by putting dropboxes for all to donate the extra money they had on them. The idea was golden said the committee, so they made the idea happen. The drop boxes were placed in local places like post offices, schools, stores, anywhere that they thought they could get a donation. Getting to tour the Monument is easy compared to some monuments, If a person was to take a tour of the Washington Monument they could either order their tickets ahead and have a ticket for sure, or wait and go to a ticket booth to get tickets and have a chance of not getting them because its a first come first serve basis, which the tickets are free if a person was to just go to the ticket booth(¨Tour¨). When people start the tour they will be escorted onto the elevator and have a ride going up for approximately 70 seconds and will be let off on the 500th floor then they can walk around and look out on the skydeck, then when people on the tour get done on the skydeck they are able to take the steps down to the 490th floor unless they would need and elevator they would have to wait for one to be available. Then their visit it over technically but they are welcome to stay in the Monument on the areas that civilians are welcome for as long as they would like(¨Tour¨). On the tour of the Washington Monument they’re several historical things a person could learn. On the tour people are informed about George Washington and the historical events which lead to the Monument being able to get built, but if a person takes any knowledge away from that is up to them. Also they would have the opportunity to learn about the city, and the view a person receives when they look out on the skydeck, while standing
