Synthesis Essay: How Technology Has Affected Society
Technology has affected society and it’s people greatly. According to the article “More Americans Sense a Downside to an Always Plugged-In Existence.” people are stressed out because of their phones. People are also losing focus because of their electronics too. “Just about as many said the devices had heightened the amount of stress they felt”. People try to do work but have to stop and check their phones causing them to get distracted. That’s one way technology has affected society. A second reason is there is way more cyberbullying. So many kids are online that bullying has grown. The article “Digital Technology is Deeply Embedded Into Our Students Lives” says “ a minority sexual orientation was associated with higher frequencies of being cyberbullied”. Kids who are different go online and get bullied more. It’s easier to bully somebody when you're not face to face with them. They’re focused on their phones and not other people. The same article in the first paragraph mentions “ 1 in 10 parents said they spent less time with their children under 18”. Parents are even on their phones too much. These families aren't getting enough. Most likely they are inside on their phones not even talking to each other. They are barely going outside. That's a third way why technology has affected society. A fourth reason is kids are losing real friends. Kids are making friends online, but aren't making real friends. The quote from “ More Facebook friends, Fewer real ones” says “the number of truly close friends people cited has dropped.”. People aren't making real friends. The friends that people can hangout with, trust them with secrets, give their friend a place to stay, or listen sympathetically. Online friends can't do that.
