Symbolic Signs Research Paper
Symbolic signs are signs (not necessarily pictures) that tell us something through what they are associated with or referred to by society. It gives an indirect picture to what it is referred to making it a referent. For example, a cross sign [ ]. When people see a cross sign they associate it with Christ or Jesus or Christianity. If the cross sign were red, we associate it with a place of health care, for example a hospital instead of having a literal picture of a hospital building.
