During this project, I found a lot of information about my family. Previously, I really only knew about my dad’s side of the family. After really putting it into perspective, the extent of my family, I realized how many people I didn’t even know about. There were some lapses in information including my grandfather on my mother’s side and my grandfather on my father’s side. This could have caused some abnormalities in data on either side of the pedigree.…

Personality traits can be defined as distinguishing qualities or characteristics of a person. Traits are a readiness to think or act in a similar fashion in response to a variety of different stimuli or situations. As we study in psychology, trait theory is a major approach to the study of human personality. Trait theorists are primarily interested in the measurement of traits, which can be defined as habitual patterns of behavior, thought, and emotion. The Myers Briggs short form test is a test designed to measure psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions. After taking the Myers Briggs short form test, the test has concluded that I am slightly expressed introvert, moderately expressed sensing personality, moderately expressed feeling personality, and moderately expressed judging personality. The test has also concluded that I am a type ISFJ. The ISFJ type are individuals whose primary interest is in the safety and security of those they care about, such as their family, their circle of friends, and their fellow co-workers. The ISFJ type also has an extraordinary sense of loyalty and responsibility in their makeup and they seem to fulfill in a degree that they can shield others from the dangers of the world or their surroundings. After reviewing the test myself, I do firmly believe that the test is accurate from my answers. Although I was unsure how to answer some of them, I tried to put myself in certain situations that would allow me to answer appropriately to each scenario faced with. Also, the test states I am an introvert. However, I do feel I share an extrovert side as well. Yes, I am more focused on myself, primarily on my own feelings, mind, and affairs. On the other hand, I am also showing sides of an extrovert. I can be assertive at times and seek out excitement on a spur of the moment feeling. Over all, I do feel it was accurate. I found the test to be interesting to take because I never…

The leadership theory I’ve chosen to use as I conduct my evaluation is Trait Theory. In a nutshell this theory claims that each person is born with special traits. Some traits are suited for leadership roles and others aren’t. When a person with several special traits rises into a leadership role, those traits make that person a great leader. Strengths also come into play here. Our textbook defines strengths as “natural talents and abilities that have been supported and reinforced with learned knowledge and skills and provide each individual with his or her best tools for accomplishment and satisfaction.” (Daft, 2013)…

One of the major personality theories that every human carries is the trait theory. This trait theory has five other traits that are “known as the Big Five.” (allpsych.com) They are: 1) Openness to experience, 2) Conscientiousness, 3) Extroversion/Introversion, 4) Agreeableness, and 5) Neuroticism. This also makes an acronym of the word OCEAN and they are considered the basic traits that underlie the trait personality. I usually had a vivid dream where I was falling through the sky. The sky was a bit blurry but I could feel the wind in my face and everything. It was really a scary feeling and I don’t know what to do. I was about to hit the ground when I suddenly woke up. Still thinking I was falling, I panicked and fell out of my bed. Focussing on only one personality trait and how that may enable or inhibit organisational change can somewhat dangerous. Organisational behaviours is often referred to as a complex system of personalities and systems to enable a group to achieve one common goal. How each person within this group achieves this or works towards the common goal can vary dramatically based on previous experience, culture, their upbringing or the environment they’re working, amongst other factors.…

As I began the process of preparing for this week’s assignments and I noticed that a great deal of emphasis was being put on personality trait testing, I have to say I was a little bit nervous as I have never really put much stock into those particular types of tests being very accurate. But after reading chapters 7 and 8 in our text Personality: Theory and Research, the article on Gordon Allport, and most specifically taking the self monitoring test myself and comparing the results given to what I already believed to be true about myself, I now have a better understanding about how these tests, along with an ability to gauge and monitor consistent patterns of behavior, feelings and thought (Cervone & Pervin, 2013, p. 232) can be a valuable tool in not only a scientific setting but in gaining self awareness. I am writing this paper as a means of sharing my insights about personality trait theories as well as how these theories might help an individual gain insight into their relationships with themselves and others. I will also discuss the relationship between personality trait theories, psychoanalytic and humanistic theories and which of these are more effective in explaining human behavior.…
