Supporting Immigration
Our Nation is surrounded by immigrants, people of different nationalities, backgrounds, cultures and languages who add diversity and richness to our lives. I support immigration because it reminds us that we are a country of immigrants and we were once strangers in this land as well. In reality everyone is an immigrant to this country except the Native Indians, so we should all give a chance to the majority of people who want to travel here for just one simple reason, a better life. I actually think that our country would benefit from a sizeable amount of good hard working immigrants. Like Rupert Murdoch says “As an immigrant, I chose to live in America because it is one of the freest and most vibrant nations in the world and as an immigrant, I feel an obligation to speak up for immigration policies that will keep America the most economically robust, creative and freedom-loving nation in the world”. People argue how the foreign-born population in the United States tripled in the past four decades and currently totals about 37 million or 12 percent of the population today. However the immigrant’s percentage of the total U.S population is below the nation’s historic highest recorded data. Correspondingly, the United States is less a nation of immigrants now than a century ago, when nearly 15 percent of the population was foreign born. Other countries have proportionately larger immigrant populations. For instance, places like Canada have a 17 percent population of foreign born, Australia running in first place with 24 percent. Studies found that Immigrants and U.S. workers do not generally compete for the same jobs. Their skills and educational levels at the lower job levels are different than those workers who are born in America. Immigrants usually choose different occupations than the average American worker because that is the work that is

I personally believe that we should let immigrants. I feel that immigrants help the United States. Although some immigrants have harmed the United States, I feel that with the right security measures we can make sure that immigrants do not harm us. Immigrants do the jobs that most Americans would never do. If immigrants did not do those jobs then there will be less workers doing those jobs meaning that there will be fewer jobs and less production. This also helps the economy. If there weren't any immigrant workers it would affect farmers heavily because they wouldn't be able to grow crops that require a lot of workers. Farmers would then have to only grow crops that they could profit off of growing. The jobs that immigrants do are actually…

"In 2000, there were over 32 million foreign-born residents in the U.S (11% of the total U.S. population). These immigrants fall into one of several categories depending on how they came to the U.S. and their current citizenship status. Most immigrants (73%) are here legally. To the person asked that sees the positive in immigration, there are a ton of benefits to having them in the country. They see the immigrants in the country as a positive addition to our country. Those who have jobs, help boost the demand for local goods, which not only helps the immigrant but the community as well. “Immigrants boost demand for local consumer goods. “According to the 2010 American Community Survey, immigrants earned a total of $1.1 trillion, and the Immigration Policy Center estimates that the purchasing power of Latinos and Asians, many of whom are immigrants, alone will reach $1.5 trillion and $775 billion, respectively, by 2015. (Whitehouse)” They, like other American’s that have jobs, shop, and buy, helping the business get their daily sales. Immigrants also have a higher percentile, of those who own businesses. “Small businesses owned by immigrants employed an estimated 4.7 million people in 2007 (whitehouse.com). Therefore they not only help others, but they are also supporting each other in order to increase our economy. But to the person that is opposed to immigration this might strike up an argument.…

In areas where the percentage of recent arrivals is lower, immigrants are more likely to be citizens and speak English. This shows that English proficiency and citizenship increases with the amount of time spent in the U.S. Less skilled immigrants are more likely to work and less likely to live in poverty than their native born counterparts. Many areas with the fastest growing immigrant populations have expanding economies; this contributes to lower unemployment for low skilled immigrants in comparison to low skilled native born citizens. Low skilled native born citizens earn $5000 more than low skilled immigrants on average. Many of the jobs performed by low skilled immigrants are jobs low skilled native born citizens will not do, filling another gap in the U.S. labor…

Immigration in the United States has been present for a long time. Millions of people leave their homelands weather it’s to have more freedom, better economic opportunity, or escape violence. Most people have the same goal, and that is to have a better and happier life in the United States. However, due to the broken immigration system in the United States many of those people have to live and work in the shadows because of their legal status. Our immigration system needs a radical renovation that would promote accountability and fairness for all.…

Immigrants have done so much to benefit the United States and continue to help benefit the country so we should allow open immigration for the benefit of their lives especially in times of crisis. They have provided many forms of economic help and support over the years. For example the Fiscal Policy Institute says small businesses owned by immigrants employed 4.7 million people in 2007 and according to estimates they generate more than $776 billion annually (Ten ways immigrants.. Para. 4). Helping employ not only immigrants but also United States immigrants. We started as a nation of immigrants, new immigrants help to keep our country young, enriched in culture, and productive, letting the United States have its influence that…

It is historically acknowledged that the authentic Native-Americans are the Indians and there is documented theory that their origination possibly evolved from Asia. From the first settlers, throughout the establishment of the 13 colonies and the growth of the United States, state-by-state, America has truly become the “Melting Pot”, a nation of immigrants. The United States Census in 2007 allocates that more than 38 million of the nation’s residents were foreign-born; 12% of the population of 302 million.…

Illegal immigration has been a problem for the United States for a long time. This concern is not a new and thousands of illegal immigrants have come to US by crossing the Mexican border, by boat or ship across one of the oceans, or by a number of other various ways at any of the borders. Some people have entered the country legally by using a visitor's visa, then have stayed illegally after the visa has expired and continue to live and work in our country. Employers that hire illegal immigrants to worker for them, do this because the immigrants can be hired at a pay rate less than minimum wage and the responsibility of taxes for these undocumented worker can be avoided by both the worker and the employer. Most of these workers are hired to work in the agricultural, manufacturing, and construction industries. These workers are not given any kind of health care or any other benefits and can easily be mistreated or discriminated against since they do not have any legal rights. This can cause hardship for the illegal immigrants and also put strain on the government at a local, state, and federal level due to the evasion of taxes. The general population is also affected by illegal immigrants since these immigrants are taking jobs away from the legal citizens and driving up the unemployment rate of our country. The United States has a right to limit and control immigration into the country and I feel that every attempt possible should be taken to minimize this ongoing problem of illegal immigration.…

For many decades, the influx of newcomers has created a controversial debate on whether immigrants are an advantage or a disadvantage to the United States. Johnny Angel Wendell and Gordon H. Hanson argue that immigrants create new ideas, increase productivity in the economy and labor work. Michael Cutler, Eric A. Ruark, and Robert Rector oppose the opinions of Wendell, and Hanson. They argue that immigrants hurt native-born Americans in many ways, and immigrants collect above average welfare from the government which creates fiscal costs for United States taxpayers. I agree with Wendell and Hanson because immigrants create a cultural diversity, and both high skilled and low skilled immigrants are a benefit to the productivity and the efficiency of labor work.…

The U.S.A. was built on the visions of hard work ethics, imagination, ethical values, and a pioneering spirit. Our melting pot culture makes us the greatest nation the Earth has ever seen. We all came here by choice, to be a part of one unified nation that grants liberty and justice to all. Annually the United States absorbs more immigrants than any other nation on earth.…
