The first painting is Tornado Over Kansas by John Steuart Curry. It is an American painting done in 1929. It was created using oil on canvas. In the picture you see a family consisting a mother, father, two young boys, a baby in the mother’s arms, and a young girl along with various animals that they are attempting to herd into the cellar. The younger of the two boys is carrying a black cat, the older boy is carrying several puppies and the young girl is dragging the dog while being led by her father’s hand. In the distance you can see a few horses running around in panic because of the approaching tornado. In the background there is a large funnel cloud that is approaching. Hurricane Hugo, one of the strongest hurricanes in South Carolina’s history, originated from a wave that moved west off of Africa’s coastline on September 9, 1989. Throughout the night and into the morning of September 10, Hugo had been classified as a tropical depression. As Hugo moved across the warm waters of the Atlantic it gained more and more strength. It wasn’t until September 14th that Hugo gained enough strength to be classified as a hurricane. On September 15th, Hugo turned west-north and began to pick up pace and strength, then became a category 5 hurricane with top speeds of almost 160 mph. Hugo began to weaken on September 16th, when it reached the islands of Guadeloupe and Montserrat. Hugo traveled over the U.S. Virgin islands on the morning of September 17th, and later that day over Puerto Rico. It was Puerto Rico’s high terrain that significantly weakened the hurricane.Throughout the next few days, Hugo’s maximum sustained winds fell to 105 mph and it began to reach the Carolina’s.…
The so called Tri-State tornado’s path was 219 miles long before the twister ran out of energy and dissipated. The Tri-State tornado devastated 164 square miles of towns farms and neighborhoods leaving nothing but rubble and lost memories. The estimated speeds of over 300 mph and has broke the United States record for the fasted tornado in the U.S.A. The Tri-State tornado started at 1 p.m. and there were over 2,000 injuries. The hospitals in the area are full with the injured and dead. We had an interview with an old cow farmer who made it out, sadly his wife and cows didn’t have the same outcome. This is what he had to say “All I saw was a massive cloud of dust coming and the next thing I knew I heard my wife screaming so I ran to find her and the house just fell” he said he got pinned and couldn’t move. He then passed out and woke up in…

The tornado that happened in Dupree occurred in June of the year 2010. It was a regular day, the wind was blowing, there were lots of rain coming down, and it was cloudy. Well that was what we thought, because there was no tornadoes that happened in Dupree for a long time. Before my family and I got a chance to make even dinner, the first tornado whistle came on. My family and I went in the truck to see where it was or see if we could spot a tornado. After scouting for a bit, we took off and went back home getting ready in case the tornado actually did touch the ground and make it toward town. If I remember right, I think it was after the third whistle went off and that was when the first tornado was seen coming closer into town. That’s when…
