    When York College of Pennsylvania’s Center for Professional Excellence was created in 2009, it was decided that an integral part of the Center would be a research component. Each year, the Center conducts a national study of professionalism in the workplace. Findings from the annual studies are used to track changes in the state and definitions of professionalism. They also help direct the content of the professionalism seminars that the Center for Professional Excellence offers every year to the college’s students, faculty, and administrators. Each year’s study includes a national sample of HR professionals. These persons are in a position to assess the level of professionalism found in new hires who have recently graduated from college. The findings from this sample are tracked over time. Last year, a sample of upper class undergraduates was added.
