Summary Of Zonce's Lemonade
Imagine that you were writing a paper for your standard English class. You were working so hard on making the paper to make it beyond compare. When you were all finished touching up your essay you let someone else read it. The person that you let read that paper is very intimidating and you will listen to whatever they say. They would have degraded your abilities by telling you that your paper is not at all pleasurable. Instead, your classmate tells you that you put an abundance of effort into the essay. Also, they suggest that you could engage your reader more in the essay. In the article, “Beyoncé’s Lemonade as an A+ Essay” by Guy Dixon from The Globe and Mail, people's essays are being judged by much more than to final essay. Essays are judged by the process that it takes the writer and communication. Essays will only improve if the essay is judged by the process and no the product. Dr. Laver explains in paragraph 10, writing is 99 percent process and 1 percent product. Everyone thinks of writing as a product, but actually it is the process (2). The central idea of the article is about how essays teach people key skills. For example, in paragraph 5, “An essay belongs in the same category as a sales pitch, or a profile on a dating site, or a map, or a website, or a video game,” Dr. Acheson argues. “If an essay is a complex and advanced form of organized information, then mastering the essay will help you do all those different kinds of communication better” (1). I do agree that mastering the essay helps people communicate better. Whether it is social media or talking to a person it will help someone out. Writing essays help with developing a connection with someone people are communicating with. Also, mastering the essay helps to develop the skill of engaging someone. Essays will always be a huge part of human communication and development of key

Because everyone has a writing style, these experts’ claims seem plausible .Considering Dr. Acheson of University of Waterloo, she see writing as a form of communication. What I need to do to improve and how I plan to do this: In future, instead of getting paralysis, or worrying that what I am writing about is not valid, I need to use what knowledge I have, back it up with theory and be confident that this is what’s needed. It would be better to get an essay in on time, than delay submitting it due to worry that it isn’t ‘good enough’.…

In the article “The New Literacy” by Clive Thompson, he argues alongside with Stanford University professor Andrea Lunsford that technology, specifically social media, is improving students’ writing ability. There is a great deal of debate when judging social media and how it has affected this generation for the better or worse. According to Thompson, Lunsford indicates that technology is motivating and improving the writing capability of our peers today. Personally, I disagree with Thompson’s positive outlook on the effect social media has on students’ writing capability and believe that social media has destroyed and continues to destroy students’ proper writing technique.…

This article is about a teacher’s experience. How he thinks social medias like Facebook can help students to learn how to write and like to write. I think this source is credible, because the author of this article, Allen Teng, is a teacher in a suburban San Diego school district. He is wrting about his own story, so this is a primary source. Also it is published in National Council of Teachers of English, so it makes this article more reliable. The author believes the purposes of writing a Facebook Post and writing an essay for school are different. Facebook Post often are trying to share thoughts with a wide group of friends, and it provides freedom that they do not have to care about grammar and spellings in their writings. Many people, when tasked with an essay, will groan and procrastinate. However, in my case, I rather have that assignment over anything else. I love to explain things, why I know them to be true, and how they work. Additionally, I enjoy journaling about my day to day experiences, fleshing out how I could better myself and handle problems differently. I see writing as a creative outlet — not a task to be checked off. Although I loved a good book when I was little, my recent love for literature springs from my experiences this past school year in AP Language and Composition. I took this class a year early in order to participate in AP Capstone. I enjoyed getting to explore and discover the true meaning behind the words they wrote.…

When I started this class, I believe I had strong writing skills, and now I believe these skills have strengthened, making me a more conscious writer. Before this class, I have not focused on aspects such as sentence length and specific words that I am using. Instead, I simply wrote and worked on proper grammar. My essay writing skills have definitely improved throughout this class simply due to the fact that I spend more time writing my essays. Now that I have mastered more skills, I can utilize them in every essay from here on out. While I know that I still have room to improve, I am pleased by my progress and I feel more confident about my writing. I have always enjoyed writing essays, but this class has helped me more fully understand the complexities of writing an essay. Previously, most essays I have written have been standard for English classes, and…

My work from the beginning of STEP to now has drastically changed especially in my writing. I never enjoyed writing essays because I did not do well with writing under pressure. After completing my essay, I felt confident about what I produced. However ,when my essay was handed back, it was noted that I lacked vocabulary, figurative language and my sentence structure was poor. After being in class, I have improved on my essay writing skills. I used more vocabulary terms than I usually would in my essays, had better sentence structure, and completed the entire essay with time to spare to check it over. In addition I learned that i have been using seven deadly writing sins in my writing. Continuously writing and having my peers edit my work helped me eliminated those sins from my writing. When school starts again, I will be prepared to write a timed essay with the new skills I have attained.…

Keller presents a shorter study done at Michigan State University, which, over a two week time period, asked students to keep a diary of all writing that they did whether on paper or on the computer. Appealing to Jeffrey T. Grabill, the leader of this study and director of the Writing in Digital Environments Research Center, was how little of the students’ total writing was academic. These other writings, such as blogs and instant messaging, were described by the students as more significant and expressive to them, therefore more important. Mr. Grabill asserts that “People write more now than ever” (2). He believes that this is due to the…
