Summary Of The Play 'Will Before The Show'
An hour before Showtime and Tiny wrecked his voice. Tiny’s upset about Will before the show. Tiny gets his voice back and immediately starts the show. While on stage, Tiny looks for Will in the audience and is disappointed when he doesn’t see him. Grayson loves the play and enjoys watching and remembering back throughout his friendship with Tiny. Grayson gets a call from Will.

    The performance we saw of Romeo and Juliet directed by Rob Salmon was designed to appeal to a contemporary audience; attempting to show characters that one would expect to see in the local area, a key example of this could be costume worn by Lady Capulet. Throughout the performance Lady Capulet was wearing clothes which could be considered some what provocative, with a very bold leopard print, a statement in society that is often considered to be ‘wild’ and suggestive of being sexually available. This is a major contrast to what an audience would have seen women wearing in the era of the original performance, women were very controlled by society’s standards and revealing merely an ankle would be seen as scandalous. This is clearly an example of theatre moving forward to portray life as it is now in order to connect with the audience rather than looking to the past. The benefit of choosing to alter the characters to fit our local area in my opinion was that it made the performance more accessible and relatable to the audience, which is always something directors and actors should aim to achieve with a performance.…

    The play starts out in the bedroom of Brick and Maggie, where Maggie is complaining to Brick about how Mae is making her monstrous children perform for Big Daddy. She goes on to rant about how Mae and Gooper are trying to cut them out of Big Daddy’s estate. Big Mama bursts in and screams the news that Big Daddy isn’t dying of cancer but only has a spastic colon. Once she leaves, Maggie informs Brick that the doctors lied to Big Daddy and Big Mama about Big Daddy’s condition and that he really is dying. Meanwhile Brick is hobbling around with an ankle injury he got from trying to jump hurdles at the high school while drunk the night before. After Brick makes a drink, Maggie catches him staring at her in the mirror and she then goes on to cry about how she is a “cat on a hot tin roof” because she is with a man that doesn’t love her. Maggie goes on to say she wishes she never confessed about her occurrence with the late Skipper and how she is jealous of the relationship Brick had with him.     On November 20th I went to the Black Box theatre to see the play Seminar. It was a small production, and there were only five actors. Going into the play, I had no idea what to expect. I had heard the play was a bit raunchy, with explicit dialogue and provocative scenes. The play started out with four actors portraying college graduate writers. I loved how realistic the setting was; it really looked like somebody’s real apartment. The actors did very well portraying emotion, and every thing they did and said I could relate to. At one point, a girl was eating real ice cream and complaining on the couch to her friend. I thought it was funny how every girl could relate to that scene. I also liked that the actor had no problem devouring ice cream on top of memorizing her lines and acting at the same time.     In seventh grade, I was first introduced into the theatre world by a group of my eighth grade friends singing a song I had never heard before. I did not have the time to ask them what it was called, but they told me it was from a musical called Wicked; the song in question was called “What is This Feeling?”, though at the time, all I knew was that it was about some people hating each other; back then, I’d believed it to be a love song between the Wicked Witch of the West and some unnamed male lead.
