Salva’s persistence is one factor in how he survives in a difficult environment, This shows that he is telling himself not to give to keep going no matter what. This is hard for him he wants to stop but he can’t because he knows that he will die if he stops. Somehow he figured out how to keep pushing himself and moving on. Salva says “One step at a time, one day at a time…. Just today-just this day to get through….” Instead of just giving up and dying he insisted to keep going through the harsh circumstances he faces. He knows he’s close to something very important and is not willing to give up and lie there. Because of his persistence Salva is able to survive and keep going to get to the next destination.
