Summary Of Rewriting American History By Frances Fitzgerald
In the essay "Rewriting American History," Frances Fitzgerald makes the statement, "each generation of children reads only one generation of schoolbooks. The transient history is those children's history forever--their particular version of America." I agree with this statement. Based on my personal experience with history textbooks, I agree with the fact they only teach "generations" a certain part of history. If we keep teaching by generations we might lose our history.
The stories that I’ve been told are completely different from what I’ve learned now. When I was attending a brick and mortar public school, my history teachers had told me in elementary through junior high that Christopher Columbus was the great man that found this place

    In the essay " 'Indians ': Textualism, Morality, and the Problem of History" written by Jane Tompkins, an English professor at Duke University, the author criticized the history writers and described the issue of problems that are often created by different perspectives from the history on the topic, European -Indian relation, that cannot be determined from right or wrong. Many problems contain one main fact behind it. However, people have different perspectives of that particular fact, and those perspectives are not always the same.
