According to Fiel (2013), the children in the majority groups who learn prejudice are taught to acquire personal status in a non-adaptive manner. The culture permits directing feelings of hostility against the segregated groups, which would cause them to develop feelings of guilt, along with rationalization and other mechanisms to protect themselves from recognizing the injustice of their hatred of such groups.
