Even though the writer is very firm in her stance, throughout the article, she did not use a harsh tone. Instead, she uses a passive tone to convey her message. Also, she did not force her perspective on her audience but she gave room for her readers to develop their own opinions. She uses a “third person” pronoun, removing the subjectivity of the article and used first person pronouns only when she provided personal experience. She also kept each paragraph short and simple, to prevent overloading, of information for the readers and kept the flow of the article smooth. Thus, it’s a more effective way of…

Cheryl Swope begins her book, Simply Classical, by introducing the reader to her two children, whom she and her husband adopted. It was not long after adopting the children, who were twins, that Swope and her husband realized they were different. Both children suffered from a multitude of handicaps that made it impossible for them to develop on their own like normal children. These first chapters describe the effort, as well as the various methods, that Swope employed to help her children lead lives that were as normal as possible. Many times throughout the book, Swope lauds Classical Education, as the key to all her children's successes, but the time and effort that Swope put into training her children…

Overall, the insight given from Davis and Shadle is much easier to understand because of the perspective they see to help us readers relate. This article was much easier for me to understand than Pat Belanoff’s article because of the way Davis and Shadle use easier vocabulary and more explanations that I, myself, can relate…

Mademoiselle Reisz inquired Edna how has she been using her time and is shocked to hear of Edna’s choice of becoming an artist. She warns her that an artist must be brave, possessing “a courageous soul that dares and defies.” Edna assures her that she has persistence if nothing else, and Mademoiselle Reisz laughs, hands over the letter to Edna, and begins to play the Chopin Impromptu that Edna asked to hear. The music deeply affects Edna, and she weeps as the pianist glides between the Impromptu and another piece, “Isolde’s song.” When Edna asks if she may visit again, Mademoiselle Reisz replies that she is welcome at all times.…

She provided various opinions of an author, the local community, government officials, parents, and a universal law professor. Incorporating multiple sources allowed for a stronger writing. The strength of her writing comes from just that, the many sources. Another part of her article which strengthens her writing is that her gathered evidence include both sides of the case. For example, pro-Boomer, a UCLA law professor shares their opinion, while against Boomer, the local community’s opinions were also shared going against Boomer. Simon’s writing has included sources for both sides. The problem with a weak explanation is not present in her article because both sides are presented.…

The video that I will be critiquing is “Nobody Likes a Bully - How to Stop Bullying in Schools - Deal with Bullies - Why Do I Bully Prevent”. The information in the video was good, but I feel that the video could have been done a little better especially if you are wanting people to take your message truthfully. It might have been better if they used different story plots to lead to the information discussing how to deal with bullies and the other topics. The video seemed…

Overall, most of the piece is awkwardly written and hard to follow. I’m not sure if this was done intentionally. The author technique of switching back and forth between Standard English as he expressed himself through intellectual thoughts and words to what seemed like forced “ebonics”. In my opinion, the article did not flow smoothly at all. I found myself having to…
