Here, Joshua is about to take leadership of the people of Israel after Moses. Joshua is a young leader, and The Eternal One repetitively said and commanded the young leader to be strong and courageous and never be afraid or discouraged. He wanted the young leader to take heart because The Eternal One will be with him wherever he goes.
This is one very beautiful verse especially for budding leaders. The word strong here means the ability to get back up immediately. As a young leader, we are prone to mistakes since we are young and lacking experience. The Eternal One knows that. And He reminds us that the key for us to survive this phase is having the ability to get back up as soon as possible. Keep on learning. Don’t stay in the mud. If life’s a race and we’re the runners, when you fall, get up and run again.
