Summary Of Doctor Manhattan
On this page, all the panels on the left are about Doctor Manhattan and those on the left are about Daniel Dreiberg and Laurel Jane. The panels containing Doctor Manhattan are tinted blue and the panels containing Daniel and Laurie are tinted purple. The blue could indicate loneliness and exile, for Doctor Manhattan has been bombarded with accusations of causing cancer to those close to him. He felt as if no one is able to understand him, for he is so different from the general society. This led to Doctor Manhattan feeling blue and depressed, shown through the colours of faded blue and the depiction of Doctor Manhattan drawn small in a large space. The purple could indicate the mysteries hidden inside Daniel and Laurie and how what they are showing are not what they truly feel towards each other. …show more content…
Although this scene occurred right after a very loud, fast-paced event for all three characters, it slowed down very quickly and seemed to mellow down in a sad manner. The words that accompanied the pictures were spoken by Laurie and Daniel. However, it worked in Doctor Manhattan’s sense, allowing Laurie’s words to explain Doctor Manhattan’s situation as well as her own. For instance, in the third panel, Laurie is explaining to Daniel how she feels empty. However these words accompany the picture of Doctor Manhattan alone in an empty tv station. This page shapes my understanding of how related Laurie’s feelings are to Doctor

I am not quite sure about the windblown trees, but maybe it could symbolize the tormenting that Hester and Pearl have gone through, especially Hester in the town square, when she was forced to wear her Scarlet letter, and Pearl being ostracized for “being the product of a sin”.…

It’s easy to see that she is mourning the death of her mother and holds her stepfather accountable for her mothers suffering. Through the uses a vivid imagery Trethewey is able to show that the true enemy of those few days spent inside was her stepfather and not the ice storm. She also uses tone shift to clearly show who was responsible for the pain that she saw so clearly in the photograph. This photograph to Trethewey was more of a reminder of what her stepfather put her family through rather than the wonders of a freak ice storm that blew into town and she resents him for…

The chief symbol in the story The Yellow Wallpaper was the gender roles. Women were oppressed not only by their husbands but also by other male figures. During the 1800s, men had the attempt to have a mental screen to place over women, which the yellow wallpaper itself symbolizes. The color yellow is often associated with sickness or weakness, and the writer’s mysterious illness is a symbol of man’s oppression of the female sex. The two windows, representing the probable equality of women by men, from which the narrator often looks out of to observe a world apart form her own. Thus symbolizing the entrapment the narrator roughly endorses through out her nervous depression in the story.…

An internal conflict I found in each of the characters was the choice between doing the right thing and doing the wrong thing. Each character found that peer pressure got the best all of them and if they were to succeed and over-achieve, they would have to rebel from it. Knowing that their family members were rooting for them and counting on them, they finally decided to get their acts together and buckle down. Sooner or later they found out that hitting the books wasn’t as difficult as they made it out to be. They all felt that they had made some hard and wrong decisions because they didn’t stand up for what was right and tried to follow along with the crowd. After these experiences, I guess they realized their reality was what they made of it, not what others attempted to make it. Throughout their college years spent together, the three learned to help each other stay focused and achieve their dreams, leading them into a world of success, intelligence, and happiness.…

The nostalgia of the photographs hung on his worn walls, were constant memories of his cheerful past, when Benjamin actually cared. ‘But now, now, he left in an instant.’ The wizened man’s words served to console the dreadful experiences of the past minutes. Here in this room, holding a photo frame tightly, he should have felt honoured and proud, yet his eyes simply could not smile. Symbolism, in many aspects, can affect humans as well as characters in a negative or positive way. In “The Yellow Wallpaper,” it is obvious that the symbol that is used, being the yellow wallpaper, affects the narrator in a negative way. As the story progresses and the narrator is forced to stay in the room covered in yellow wallpaper, she starts to gain a sense of who she is as well as a sense of self-expression. Suffering from her illness, the narrator is secluded from everyone and as time passes the wallpaper starts to come to life and causes her harm. As the narrator looks more and more into the wallpaper, she starts to notice the different types of delicate patterns in which lead her to seeing women behind the wallpaper. She starts to feel as if she has legitimately been isolated and can’t help but see people behind the yellow wallpaper. “Sometimes I think there are a great many women behind, and sometimes only one, and she crawls around fast, and her crawling shakes it all over. Then in the very bright spots she keeps still, and in the very shady spots she just takes hold of the bars and shakes them hard “(Gilman 487). Having the narrator see women from the wallpaper goes to show the reader that she is becoming delusional as time goes by, and soon her actions play a role in deciding to rip off the wallpaper off. The reader can definitely understand that the narrator is aware that she does have an illness that has affected her in multiple ways now, but does not want to accept how insane she truly has…
