The botanist advised the state agent to use the size of the protein “compositase” to find the identity of the plant in the pot. This process uses electric currents to draw DNA out from the wells formed in the gel because the DNA is negatively charged and it would try to move through the gel to get away from the negative side of the electric current. This allows the scientists to see it’s behavior as it moves through the gel as the smaller proteins move more quickly than the larger ones. Since DNA is colorless the scientists stain the sample in order to visualize the protein and then they can compare the sizes and patterns of the three flowers to the sizes and patterns from the plant in the…

In this experiment we found that the width of the hair was 5.25 x10-5 m ±1cm. This proved my hypothesis of 10-4m incorrect, but was very close. Considering that the width of hair varies from person to person and hair to hair, this number seems appropriate. During the experiment we found there were 15 dark lines in one cm of the diffraction pattern created by the hair. This…

Forensic toxicology tests were done on fragments of Robert Curley’s hair. Forensic expert Fredrick Reiders commented, "Hair is, for many things, a time line, it is a repository of what circulated in the body. If you take an aspirin, what will grow out of your head will be a strand of hair on which a tiny portion will have a little aspirin." Reiders went on to state, “Since hair grows at an approximate rate of one-third to a half-inch per month, scientists can start at the hair's root and work backward in time. Using highly sophisticated equipment, the tests pinpointed at least seven separate occasions during the last 11 months of his life that Robert Curley ingested thallium,” (Henson,…
