Summary: A Song Of Ice And Fire
In George R.R Martin’s novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, there is a long standing prophecy about Azor Ahai or “the chosen one”. The legendary figure in the R'hllor faith who led the crusade against the White Walkers (White Walkers are supernatural beings that can reanimate the dead) who invaded Westeros 8000 years prior during the “War for the Dawn”. The prophecy states that he will return with the flaming sword “Lightbringer” to defeat the White Walkers and save the world once more. The theory that Jon Snow is Azor Ahai is the most well supported as he falls under more of the requirements of prophecy than the other candidate Stannis Baratheon.
To begin with, the requirements of the prophecy, Melisandre a priestess of the R’hllor faith states, “When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again …show more content…
Furthering this is the title of the series itself “A Song of Ice and Fire” as the Targaryen blood in him is the fire as past Targaryens are well known for riding dragons and being resistant to being burnt and the Stark blood in him is the ice from the North. A very strong allusion to Jon Snow being Azor Ahai is when Melisandre states, “I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai and R’hllor shows me only Snow” (Martin) as in Jon Snow, this quote heavily supports the claim that Jon is Azor Ahai. During Jon’s stabbing at the wall there is also strong evidence of salt, as some shed tears during the stabbing, smoke because George R.R Martin states, “the wound was smoking” (Martin) and a red star, as a man named Sir Patrick who had the sigil of a star was bleeding heavily. Jon Snow is also already combating the White Walkers with the Night’s Watch the main duty of Azor Ahai. These are the reasons why it is more plausible the Jon Snow is Azor Ahai than Stannis
