An adept writer usually depends on an existing way of writing which they learnt from others. The basic procedures of academic writing can be found in the templates which would help students to be familiar with conventional writing patterns and to make more sounded arguments. The most essential template in the book is the “they say, I say” template that teaches students to react to the arguments made by other people. The authors believed that a well-argued academic writing should include the opinion of others so that readers will know why there is a need to make an argument. The arguments that writers respond to do not have to be an eminent writer or the audience. From the template, we can learn that we do not need to be restricted to agreement and disagreement. Davis and Shadle state, “In this essay, we will present a series of alternatives to the modernist research paper: the argumentative research paper, the personal research paper, the research essay, and the multi-genre/media/disciplinary/ cultural research paper” (418). Davis and Shadle also have techniques by using rhetorical situations. The described situations help the reader understand how to create a successful research paper and useful tips on what and what not to do. Davis and Shadle include many different examples from other researchers in their article. This helps back up the information that they are trying to reach out to the readers. They also help by including ways of writing that I can make connections with as well as other readers like me. For example Posusta, a tutor at UCLA, comes up with ways for a researcher to make the process work well in a short period of time for procrastinators rather than insisting on using a longer process. Davis and Shadle further his purpose by explaining, “To better invent, Posusta had to learn the academy’s customs, rules, and practices” (419).…

Today, in the 20th Century, it is a commonly known fact in Australia, and throughout the rest of the world, that Aborigines were mistreated from since western culture first settled, and for many years after that. It is the main purpose of stage dramas to bring issues, such as the one mentioned above, and ideas about these issues to life through dramatic performances and the use of a number of various techniques. No Sugar, a revisionist text written by Jack Davis in 1985, is one of these stage dramas. In the preface of “They Say/ I Say”: The Moves That Matter in Academic Writing, the authors furnish certain types of writing templates geared toward cuing students to think cognitively as well as critically; ultimately producing a writing style that is unique and creative to the individual. In David Zinczenko’s Don’t Blame the Eater article, he blames the fast-food industry for starting the rising obesity problem because of the failure of providing the facts and warnings labels about their high calorie junk food to the consumers. Zinczenko argues that kids are drawn by the cheap, high-calorie junk food that the fast-food chains like McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken, or Pizza Hut are happy to supply because with lots of parents working all day, they do not have time to check what their children are eating. David Zinczenko is the editor-in-chief of Men’s Health magazine and the author of numerous best-selling books. Zinczenko is a man known for his work; his work and credibility shines bright because he has contributed op-ed essays to the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and USA Today. He has also appeared on Oprah, Ellen, 20/20, and Good Morning America. The fact that he is so accomplished in the area of eating healthy shows just how credible he is when it comes to discussing fast food vs. the eater. Zinczenko believes that the fast food industry is partly at fault for the growing rate of obesity. Although Zinczenko’s background and accomplishments gives us the evidence we need to know in order to trust his judgments, his emotional way of getting his points across make a difference as well. In the beginning of the essay, Zinczenko tells us about himself and how he grew up with troubled parents who weren’t together, and with very little options of what to eat for lunch and dinner every day. He explains that his options were mainly fast food, which caused him to be an overweight teenager. In other words, he uses his story of himself as a teenager growing up with family problems to draw people in and get them to sympathize with the overweight teenagers and get them to see that it is not all their fault and that it is, in fact, partly the fast food industry’s fault. No Sugar (1986), a play exploring the treatment of Aboriginal people in the 1930’s, was written by Jack Davis, an Aboriginal Western Australian who grew up in Yarloop and the Moore River Settlement. No Sugar is told from the point of view of an Aboriginal family who are coerced into living at an Aboriginal reserve because the white people in their community didn’t like them living close to them. The authority at the settlement are very abusive creating conflict between the Millimurra family and the authorities. The main focus during this play is racism, which Davis has outlined as an upsetting theme that should be erased from society. Davis uses sub-topics to convey this message; such as the inequality of the ways Aboriginal people are treated, the authority abusing their power and the Aboriginal family bonds and relationships. These themes all contribute in conveying Davis’ underlying message that racism is unjust and hurtful and Davis’ reinforcement that the audience reflects their own behaviours towards Aboriginal people.…
The only entity fast food restaurants desire is money. They do not care about health, weight, or medical problems. Fast food is everywhere, also “ there are more than 160,000 fast food restaurants in America. More than fifty million customers are served per day” (Zinczenko 464). These statistics are outrageous and embarrassing for Americans. The food these companies produce is horrible in nutrition and damaging for one’s health. Even though fast food is tempting, one should stay far away from it as possible. In David Zinczenko article “Don’t Blame the Eater,” he has his own personal experience as an example for people, specifically teenagers, to stay away from fast food. “Food portions in America's restaurants have doubled or tripled over the last 20 years, a key factor that is contributing to a potentially devastating increase in obesity among children and adults.” (Larger Portion Sizes Contribute to U.S. Obesity Problem.). Portion size is not the only aspect of this problem; what food is currently made from and the way it is processed is also a factor. Processed foods have shown to be very addictive, a University of Michigan study shows “that foods high in sodium, sugar, or fat are likely to trigger food addiction and overeating, due to the way they act on the brain’s reward system.
