Listening has some benefits such as, reducing the probability of making the same mistakes from the past and making better choices. However, if an individual only focuses on imagining about the future, it would be difficult to make good decisions in the present moment.
Imagining about the future might bring happiness at the moment, but in reality it only disturbs the present moment and the process of making good decisions. Daniel Gilbert, the author of Stumbling on Happiness, says that there are three major reasons that listening to others is better than imagining about the future is that imaginations fill in the memories of the past. The second reason was that the emotions that one feels in the present situation has influences in the future feelings.

It will only make the person lifeless because if it does not go in the direction they thought it would, their self-esteem would be lowered. As much as it is important to make good decisions for a bright future, the guidance that people need in order to make certain decisions are respectively essential. However, individuals tend to set their goals in the far future and make decisions accordingly to the goal. But it is wise to make the goal reachable and closer to the present moment and clear it step by step.
It is indeed true that every single person is unique in their own ways. But, being unique should not get in the way of making good decisions. In order to make good decisions individuals should be listening more from other people about their experiences and not imagine about the insecure

People naturally select the principle that places them in the best light, and most are unrealistically optimistic about their personal future (Gazzaniga & Heatherton, 2003) believing they are less susceptible to danger. Job (1999) says, ‘we see ourselves as less likely than our peers to suffer an early heart attack, have cancer, AIDS or a drinking problem but more likely to live past eighty years, own our home and have gifted children'.…

Novelist Ayn Rand, in her book Anthem, wrote, “My happiness is not the means to any end. It is the end. It is its own goal. It is its own purpose”. Although happiness may seem like a simple concept to many, sometimes we don’t recognize it but we always take different paths, face many obstacles, and spend most of our lives trying to achieve happiness. Depending on the circumstances, every person has their own definition of what it means to attain happiness, whether through wealth, success, health, love etc. Happiness is a notion that be developed by focusing on the smaller things in life which are not given a great deal of thought to, but still can heavily impact us. One of these smaller yet significant ideas in life is individualism. Today…

According to Daniel Gilbert there are “fundamental assumptions namely, that we humans understand what we want and are adept at improving our well-being that we are good at maximizing our utility, in the jargon of traditional economics” (Gertner 1). Daniel Gilbert is describing what affective forecasting is. Affective forecasting means that we cannot predict what we want. According the Arthur C. Brooks “happiness is a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but which if you will sit down quietly may alight upon you” (1). This means that if we tryto make out lives perfect we will almost always mess up. People think that we always have to go out in the world to find what will make us happy but, sometimes we have to let life take its course in order to find…

After carefully analyzing “Thought” by Louis H. Sullivan, it is evident that he believes the basis of creativity lies within thought. Fascinated with the power of thought, he begins to correlate the hinderance of creativity with the usage of words. He dives into a very mysterious yet relatable topic about thinking in the past, present, and future. The focus of his argument which caught my attention was thinking about the past or future. By thinking about the past or future, are we making significant decisions in the present based off of those thoughts? I believe so, but only for people who are committed to improving and can envision themselves in situations yet to come. A proper balance of learning from the past and planning for the future…

According to Ben – Shahar’s happiness model, there are four patterns that human can express the way they live: Nihilism, Rat Racing, Hedonism and Happiness. Each archetype reflects the different links between present happiness and future benefits. Nihilism archetype is people who are giving up their hopes in the searching for the meaning of life. These people do not enjoy the happiness of the present, and they do not have any purpose or hope for the future. To put it another way, they do not really live. They just survive. Meanwhile, Hedonism archetype followers only enjoy happiness in the present and they do not even have any slight thoughts to the possible consequences in the future. These people do not like challenges in life. They avoid hard work because they think it is boring and miserable.…

Looking to the future is more likely to help you make a good decision because it makes you look at what will happen as a result of a decision with a clear head. If you look to the past, your judgment might be clouded with what did happen without understanding that it simply is what did happen, and it probably won’t happen again, but the decision you make will effect what will happen. The big picture is always important here because every small decision that a person makes can have a huge effect on what the future will be like. You…

The podcast talks about us as human beings, and how we are one of the few creatures to understand the concept of self, which includes the ability to interpret our experiences. We are also capable of learning from experiences we have never had, based off of our assumptions/imagination. Our assumptions at times are not solely based off of our own thinking, but rather off of other’s similar experiences/thoughts on the matter, which we integrate into our conclusion in the end. Moreover, we still do not predict the future accurately. The podcast further states how once our minds get into imagining the future, we still tend to leave out important details. The podcast also states, that we don’t consider how much we will change in the future, therefore…

This quote portrays that you shouldn’t worry about the future because it’s going to happen anyways, and you shouldn’t spend your whole life worried about it. My grandpa used to say to me, that “Tomorrow will never come”, or he would provoke that, “Yesterday was the past, tomorrow's a mystery, so don’t worry about it.” It’s best to keep your mind on the present instead of worrying about tomorrow. The future is going to happen either way. If you force yourself to worry about the future, you’re going to miss all the wonderful things the present has to…

I suppose that life is too tricky to predicate it. Future – it will happen in any case, whatever our mood is. Of course, it is better to think about your future with a smile. As for me, I do it this way I am an optimist about my destiny. I according to the principal that you should live here and now, “without putting the card before the horse”. Generally, those people, who make plans about their future beforehand, are very upset because of their “might-have-been” desires. Unlike such people, I schedule my future very rarely and always look ahead very optimistic. I don’t worry about possible impediments and troubles because all of them are surmountable as they teach me something new and important.
