As an International Business and Management double major with a Spanish minor, the study abroad program in Granada is essential to my academic growth. The semester abroad is not only required for my major but also, the immersion in the country is the only way to fully learn and appreciate the Spanish language as well as the culture. The Spanish classes offered during the Granada semester abroad are required for my major and learning them in the center of the Spanish culture is the best experience a student could ever hope for. The semester in Granada would also greatly contribute to my personal growth. No other time in my life will I be able to move to another country for three months and completely experience life in another culture. This semester abroad will help me to not only understand the culture of the clients I will hopefully be doing business with in the future but also to appreciate my own culture much more. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once said, “those who know nothing of foreign languages know nothing of their own”. I believe that not only is this true of foreign languages, but also of foreign cultures. In order to understand your own culture, you must understand other cultures to see the vast differences and similarities. I believe this semester abroad is absolutely vital to my future success in my career as well as in my life. This semester in Granada would be nothing short of a life changing…
The study abroad fair brought to my attention many new learning opportunities that are available to us students. The program that stood out most to me was the CLEE Chile program. In this program you travel to Santiago, Chile for either a semester or for a full year. In this specific program, it focuses on the liberal arts, with subject areas from sociology, to political science, psychology, and more. You will receive 15-18 credits a semester you are on the trip. You will be living with a host family from Chile with the homestay housing option. Several sample courses are Social History of Chile and Native Art and Culture of the Americas. During the trip you get to experience Chile and see what it offers as you see how it differs from life in the United States. In part of the trip there are two weekend study trips which bring you to one of the most visually stunning places in northern Chile and the other to historical southern Chile. Most importantly you will get to experience the culture that Chile has to offer as you travel and do various activities.…
