Study stress: causes, effects and solutions

There are several causes of stress on students studying. One main cause is the number of examinations. Chinese education is different from western education. When students start to study in New Zealand, they need time to adapt to the education. Another cause is personality. Some students don't like talking much, so they may not have a good relationship with their classmates. Further, different lifestyle and environment also can contribute to study stress, such as culture shock caused by different diet and customs.

As a result of the study stress above, students may have many physical, psychological and study problems. One main effect of study stress is that it is bad for students’ health, causing headaches, loss of sleep, fever and even stomach diseases. Another effect is poor psychological health. Students may become lonely, depressed, moody, have relationship problems and lose confidence. A further effect is that they need to study harder by cramming and staying up late so that they can catch up with the class.

Stress in study can be reduced in many ways. One way is to balance study and recreation. I think it is necessary for students to relax and calm down. Students need to study hard, but not push themselves but just try their best. They need to make a plan about their study. Another solution is to have a good relationship with classmates. They must get on well with each other and not be shy. It is very vital for students to make more friends, while they are studying overseas. Further, students can learn something about New Zealand such as culture and customs. Trying to adapt to the life in New Zealand as quickly as possible is very important.

Moreover, college students in their first year usually lose or gain weight; this leads to stress. Also, most students have jobs and less time to do homework which makes them stress. An enormous amount of stress affects many academic issues; such as sleep deprivation, changes in weight, and time issues.…

Since most students are responsible for themselves, some tend to drift away or mix with the wrong crowd which later becomes a source of problem along the line as most face the pressure of having to experiment with things such as drugs, sexual activities and the likes which might not have originally been a pattern of life for such individuals, therefore, having to contend with this pressure can be very stressful and painstaking.…

This form of stress helps to get a lot of done and meet any challenges. For example, sometimes students get a lot of assignments and usually they have to prepare them for the next day. This situation seems to be very stressful. However, this kind of stress, which refers to be positive stress, leads students to finish their homework. Positive stress is usually a short-term pressure. Unlike positive stress, there is another form of stress, what some people might call negative stress. Negative stress induces that people cannot return to a relaxed state. For instance, students have a lot of assignments, tests and presentations, but they postpone their work to another point of time until they stand under time pressure and feel very stressful. This form of stress, which is negative, usually refers to psychological effects and physical symptoms. However, a treatment and prevention of negative stress are possible in a college life.…
