Study Habits How I Think Myself as a Writer
“He who devotes sixteen hours a day to study hard may become as wise at sixty as he thought himself at twenty” – Mary Wilson Little. Effective study habits are essentials in achieving excellent marks in school. For a student like me, it plays an important role in our learning process. But to give sixteen hours a day is little hard because earth rotates 24 hours a day only. It is not like that we will sit in a chair and study for the entire day. That is why I posted my daily time schedule on our wall to manage my time everyday and allot moments for studying and doing assignments. I’m trying to be more organized but honestly, my allotted time in studying is sometimes corrupted. Aside from that, I have a small notebook where my daily assignments are written. While in the class, I am writing down new assignments and upcoming tests in that notebook so that I will not be able to forget doing it. When I come home from school, I will not have to search through all of our lecture notes to find assignments because it is listed together in the same place. When I have accomplished the task, I will put a check beside it. I am keeping an eye on big assignments or the hardest homework and those that consume longer time. I prefer to study in a quiet area so that I am concentrated and work it fast. I avoid distractions such as facebook, television, cellphone and music. Some people can work better with music but I can’t. If there is extra time left, I read chapters in advance because it is better if I am not doing it under the deadline pressure. Finally, I review our previous lessons or just think about what I have learned on that day before going to bed. There are times that I unintentionally broke my study habits but for me, that’s not inevitable. That’s how I think. But most of the time, it is sad to say that I am a pessimist. I think that my head is totally programmed of negative thoughts. Mahatma Gandhi says that: "A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes." This is the quotation that I remembered and hit me the most. I always think unclearly of something or a situation in advance until it affects my mood, feelings, and emotions. One of the reasons I see is that I am lack of confidence and trust to myself. I am the kind of person that wants to please everyone. I am afraid that others may not like me for who I am. I always think that I might be rejected by someone. But on the contrary, I learned to think practically and simply. Speaking of simplicity, my writing skill is just simple. In most cases, I use simple, familiar and concrete words in writings. But on the other hand, I am not sacrificing precision for simplicity. Precision in using words is one of the essential aspects in writing. Some ideas are difficult to express in simple language that’s why I’m making use of wordy phrases. I employ synonyms to avoid repetition of terms in one sentence and paragraph. I am fond of putting quotation in introductions, expressing direct to the point and applying agreements on writing. I assure that I have correct spelling, parallelism and the ideas are connected with each other. My concepts come from simple to a complex one. It may start from a dust but when I start to imagine things out of it, I could turn it out to a long one. I admit that it is hard to write, especially when you hate writing essay or you’re not in the mood for it. As well as in writing, there are lots of difficulties I encounter in speaking English. For me, it is easier to write essays despite the fact that I am not in the vein of writing. There are times that I can’t express Filipino words to English terms. I can think longer when writing but speaking is on-the-spot. Sometimes, I am not sure about the grammar or I am intimidated by unfamiliar words and doubting how to pronounce it. Lacking of confidence makes me think that I am not good on manner of speaking and diction.

I do not usually put much thought into how I spend my time, but now that I have seen how few hours are actually in a day I will try to put more thought into my daily activities. I want to make every minute count and I don’t want to let a second go to waste. This time log has helped me see what I spend the majority of my time on and has made me realize that I need to put more of my focus on academic work and less of it on my friends. I can also put more attention on my overall health and should make more time for exercising so that I stay healthy which will also help me focus better on my studies. A good way to make sure that my time dedicated to school work is used effectively is to go to the library or a quiet space during that time so that I can get the most done…

The art of writing is a unique skill that requires the writer to have great flexibility and be open to improvement. Some may consider themselves a “perfect writer”, when in reality, no one is, and will ever be. Writing is a process that requires one to continuously build on skills learned in previous situations, applying new techniques and strategies to future writing projects. Different settings require different writing styles, and with that being said, one must be willing to change their writing skills to suit the requirements of their current setting. In the following essay I will reflect on past writing assignments, identifying my best and worst writing courses, strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and my opinion on why writing may or may not be beneficial to me throughout my career.…

Writing is necessary to perfect as an AVID student. Without writing you would not be able to write your cornell notes or learning logs correctly. Everything begins with a process. In this case it is the writing process. Mr. Hill once assigned a prompt for both timed writing and process writing. I attached this ecology awareness prompt that was timed. Since time was limited I brainstormed on a sticky note and kept my ideas brief. When I began writing I expanded my ideas more. This is how I began to learn how to write using my time wisely and keeping things brief but sorted. Unfortunately, I did not finish the whole essay. I wrote five paragraphs but was missing one more to actually be complete. I made a few grammar errors here and there. Though…
