Student Mentors
Wisconsin has started to sue the parents of some school bullies. Parents are not happy about it although they have been given a warning. After the warning if the problem still persists, then the parents will get sued. Is this the right way to deal with bullies in school? Now schools have considered using student mentors to pair up with a bully. Bullies are not a force to be reckoned with. Several schools have tried multiple ways to declare themselves a “bully free zone” but none have had the best impact. Bullying in schools is a serious problem. For example, most school absences are caused from a student being bullied. To help this, Cloonan middle school will mentor bullies to improve the overall atmosphere of the school. According to students at Cloonan middle school, using student mentors has improved the mood of the school. (Daltons 2) This shows that student mentors for bullies will help to declare schools a “bully free zone” because in a survey, several students said that using student mentors have improved the overall atmosphere of the school. So now, schools are switching to student mentors instead of teachers figuring it out because of the great impact. Many times teachers and adults do not know about bullying when it’s happening. As a solution, Cloonan middle school has started to use a “bully box” to report situations that may not have been noticed by a teacher or other adults.(Daltons 2) This shows that “bully boxes” have helped schools report incidences that have not been seen because now teachers are aware of what has happened between students.
