GEOPACKET SUBSTITUTE essay
By Nathaniel lee 22 3/2/2012

In the United States, there are good places to live and bad places to live. There are rich cities and poor cities, strong cities and weak cities. Cities that need financial aid or ones that are economically comfortable. This same concept applies to other countries and even continents, such as Canada and/or Asia. In a continent, there are countries that are the best or worst places to live in. In countries, they are cities instead of countries. And as you can see, there are many possible combinations for this widespread topic, therefore, I chose Africa.

I think South Africa is the best place to live in Africa, but it has some depressing facts (as all countries do). A quarter of the South African population is unemployed, which is quite high for a country. Part of the reason this exists is because South Africa has a mixed economy with a high rate of poverty and low GDP (Gross Domestic Product) for each individual person. South Africa is ranked in the top 10 countries in the world for unfairness in income. Also, illegal immigrants are involved in informal trading, which hurts it even more. However, the facts above are just the bad side of this country. South Africa is one of or the leading producers of diamonds in the world. The impact of this is enormous. Hundreds of companies rely on South Africa for diamonds, which means South Africa is quite popular with the rich jeweling companies. Another possible cause of this is that South Africa is a popular tourist destination, and a large amount of profit comes from tourism. Many immigrants that successfully immigrate to South Africa live in poor conditions, and the immigration policy has become gradually stricter. Major international trading partners of South Africa include Germany, the United States, China, Japan, the United Kingdom, Spain, and several other African countries. Gold is also one of the ‘more natural’ resources of South Africa. The

According to her, Africa is often described as a place of beautiful landscapes and animals with incomprehensible people fighting senseless wars, dying of poverty and aids. It is a continent of catastrophes where people are pitiful illiterate aborigines who have no possibility of being human equals. They are unable to speak for themselves and are waiting for foreigners to save them. All in all, Africa is a lowly continent with nothing more but scenic places with starving people.…

My primary reason for choosing the country instead of the city is the clean environment. The air smells fresh and clean, because there are less cars creating pollution. In the city, there are busses, taxis, and cars on all the streets contributing harmful chemicals into the air. While automobiles are not the only cause of pollution, there are also more factories and plants to pollute the air. In the country, the only major industry would be farming, which does not pollute the air in any way. There are more people in the city breathing the air and less forest area to help control the pollution. Since there are less people in the country than in the city, the amount of littering on the roads is also less. The polluted air is very harmful to the human body and that is why I will choose to raise my family in the country where there is less pollution. The clean environment is not the only reason that I will choose to live in the country.…

    Blood Diamond

From watching the film Blood Diamond I have learnt that Africa can be a beautiful place when it’s calm, but most of the time it’s dictated by violence and mis-understanding. In the film there is some beautiful times, like at the start when Solomon and his son Dia go fishing early in the morning and it’s all so peaceful and quiet and near the end when Danny rings up Maddy to say his good byes before he went to another place, just the view that he saw was beautiful. I have also learnt that a lot of people live there and it is a really poor place because of the population of people so most of the people don’t have homes, so they live on the ground or in something they made with hay or straw. One of the other things is that Africa is a really big place and no matter how poor people are or how sore someone was they were happy as long as they had their family and it shows that throughout the movie, the only time they weren’t happy was when they lost everyone for the R.U.F. and the army shooting everyone just so the army can try and save as many as they could, they didn’t mean to shoot the people they did they just had to keep shooting so they could get the people in the R.U.F. so they can save more people.…
