INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT

Stress is a common problem that affects almost all of us at some point in our lives. We face academic difficulties, social connection, family issues, and daily responsibilities. Not knowing how to deal with the demands of being a college student, and for some a full time job can create a portion of pressure and stress. As a college student there are a mass amount of life changing decisions we have to make and challenges we face daily. Some of those encounters can academic and financial obstacles. For example, my main stresses only sometimes seem impossible to find stability between school, friends, and family, a part-time job. It can be highly difficult to keep a healthy state of mind when you are constantly pushing your limits.
One of my stresses on what I wanted to be, I was not aware that advisors would ask me what course I wanted to take after college, but I had absolutely no clue on what I wanted to proceed with my career. It was a major struggle because I am used to individuals telling me what to do, but in this case I am the actual person that is in charge of my future. As the first few weeks of school I had so much pressure on my back that I thought I was going to scream for help as loud as I can. Because of lectures wanted the class to have our textbooks by a specific date and I was under so much tension because I had not gotten my financial aid money and I did not want to have the instructors to say I am irresponsible and cannot manage. But finally my financial account was being processed and I was able to get my textbooks on time for my classes. Another reason of college stresses me is because having too much homework. Sometimes I was unable to complete them even used an entire day to worked on it. Cause me have too little time to sleep. Many teachers may not be aware of how much homework you get from other teachers. Another hassle I have to deal with is my family. I love my family so much, but I get enough pressure on school to be hearing all the comments they have to say to me. For instance, my mother complains abundantly on how late I stay up every night doing homework and that my chores and bedroom are not complete. My family expects me to do all the things I used to do while I was in high school, but there is just no time. The reason why my family stresses me out is because they don’t realize how busy I have become. Coming home every day I not only have to rush and finish my homework for my classes, but I have to do my chores and other errands I have to do before I can have time to do anything else. If I choose not to do what I am required to do then I will be inquiring it from my mother and when she is disappointed there is no reasoning with her. As you can see, my family expects me to do all these errands while they know I have pile of homework every night and it stresses me because I do not want to get in trouble by mother and second I want to have all my work done on time.
My part time job was one of my main concerns that I have. Also, I do have a tight schedule in the mornings at school which I get out about every day around four o’ clock in the afternoon. Starting at five o’ clock in the afternoon I have to start to do my part-time job until midnight. Work stresses me because my family is not enough money to support me on my studying and I do my best to work as many days as I can to have money for myself to survive everyday and for my entire life.
In conclusion, I have learned so many things that I have overcome those stresses. Such as, being prepared and responsible can make college much easier, also by being open to my family and explaining my problems can work for the best because family is willing to do anything to make life a bit easier and college homework by having help from my lectures to solve some difficulty question make me easily to work on it. These stresses that I have been experiencing are no longer within me. I do not stress as much over college compare to previously because I have adjusted to the way I can be on time, prepared and organized. My family is not a problem anymore because we all sat together and came up with wonderful ways to work together and make each other’s lives a bit easier. Lastly, my part time job is a bit less stressful because my supervisor is willing to work with my schedule. Finally I’m adjusting to the new environment, never being shy to ask questions or talk about my problems. Sorting everything out and being well organized can get you far in life. You may go through some hard bumps in life, but do not let them knock you down just fight through it.

Stress is what we experience through a complex interplay between external forces in the environment (stressors) and our perceived ability to adapt to them. Based on our textbook, stressors fall into three main types: catastrophes, significant life changes, and daily hassles. As a high school senior (a month left of high school), my major stressor falls into significant life change category, which are both turning 18 and starting college. I feel like turning 18 will be seen as an adult, so I must act maturely and have tons of responsibility. Also, I am not ready for college at all, I do not want to leave my friends and family and am quite nervous about everything. Whenever I think about I am going to college very soon, I get sweaty palms (physiological) and feel overwhelmed (psychological).…
