Critical Lens Essay

There are many situations in life which are related to reality and they can be illusional because of your own perspective. a quote that supports this is “ Reality is that which, when you stop believing it, doesn’t go away”. This quote explains that reality is something that even if you don’t believe in it or if you don’t think its true it still doesn’t go away. You can’ deny the fact that that fact is true no matter what. You can make a situation unreal just because of the way you think or you don’t want to face the truth. This quote also explains that you can’t deny the harshness of the truth by consoling yourself. Some people in their lives go through many changes and many phases and they have to face many bitter truths but they try to make it a lie in their own mind by saying that its nothing or such thing like that doesn’t exist. In fact they are consoling themselves because they know that the harsh truth will really hurt them. This quote is true because I have seen many people go through a lot of situations like that and they just don’t want to face the reality. There are many works of literature that support this quote. The first work of literature that supports this quote is a play by Tennessee Williams “ A Streetcar Named Desire” and another play “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare tells about the characters about how they do many things without thinking and then they just don’t want to face the situation.

The play “ A Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams confirms that the quote is related to the play. In this play, it shows a story of two sisters. One of the sister Blanche is unmarried and has a dark past which she hides from everyone. Her life is full of lies even lies that her sister doesn’t know. Her sister Stella is married to Stanley and is pregnant. Her sister arrives and many things get revealed about her past.

"It is the responsibility of the writer to expose our many grievous faults and failures and to hold up to the light our dark and dangerous dreams, for the purpose of improvement." This quote suggests that writers must face their failures and confront their dangerous desires for purpose of learning from their own mistakes, people who don't learn from past mistakes are bound to repeat them. This quote holds true in a lot of literature, for example two examples are Macbeth by William Shakespeare and Lord of the Flies by William Golding.…

Review: Macbeth a visually striking period piece for the modern viewer We all wrote an essay about it in high school; Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” is so widely read that it’s surprising Justin Kurzel’s newest film is the first notable cinematic adaptation since Roman Polanski’s in 1971. Kurzel’s take on the Scottish play is a spectacle of haunting violence; he takes advantage of the cinematic medium and crafts a stunning aesthetic. As an adaptation, the film offers an imaginative reading of the familiar narrative of the eponymous Scottish general (Michael Fassbender, sure to draw a crowd at the box office) and his infamously manipulative wife (Marion Cotillard, art-house ace). However, in its attempts to be visually striking, much will seem to have…

“Vaulting ambition, which o’erleaps itself And falls on the other.” This means ambition can cause people to have desire to do things at a much faster rate. I agree with this statement because if a person has a reason for what they’re doing they tend to achieve their goals faster. However in the play Macbeth the main character Macbeth gave up his morals and beliefs to become king and receive the power which motivated him to do unreasonable things.…

The play Macbeth by William Shakespeare and the novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley are both considered to be tragedies, although they very different. In the play Macbeth, Macbeth is considered to be a tragedy of a tragic hero and in Brave New World, John is said to be a tragedy of a common man. John and Macbeth both share many differences according to Aristotle’s view of the tragic hero and Arthur Miller’s view of the common man. These differences include their standings, catharsis, and the tragic flaw.…

Shakespeare's Macbeth is a classic example of the degradation of a character from valiant to villain. This degradation is chiefly achieved by the main character Macbeth himself as he is swayed by murderous intentions, but also by the provocative words of his inamorata, Lady Macbeth. The corruption exercised upon Macbeth as he travels his corrupted path is the ultimate and clearest theme of Macbeth: the self-generated damnation of one's soul.…

Having a lust for power can cause a loss in many things. It’s as if you’re in a win-lose situation. In this case, the play Macbeth written by Shakespeare has scholars sayings, “The lust for power by Macbeth and Lady Macbeth led to a loss of humanity.” With that said, I totally agree with their view. Both Lady Macbeth and Macbeth went out of their way to even killing King Duncan and burdening the murder on his guardsmen. Even though that’s a common human act, you just don’t do something like that. It’s just so wrong. The acts of both these people are very evil and violent, in which causes Macbeth to move from one act of endangerment to another just to protect himself from a great disaster which I likely consider his death to be it. Lady Macbeth is like a tag along buddy. She is like a huge helping hand to Macbeth and ends up dying on her way to the top with him. Both of their desires for high royalty led themselves to death. So, as said lusting for power is very harmful to oneself unless done in a proper way; meaning without anyone getting hurt.…

The strive of ambition for power can seem to be true perfection, but one should be careful what they want. In the play "Macbeth" written by William Shakespeare, the main character Macbeth changes a great deal throughout the course of this play. In the beginning Macbeth is a coward and overrun by fear, but through his greed for power and his vaulting ambition, he becomes a fearless man that is driven by an overconfident ego. Through this dynamic Shakespeare teaches the reader that good people can turn the wrong way because of a strive for power.…

Setting the tone for a play early on is critical for the success of the play. The audience should have a sense of whether the play is fun and lighthearted, dark and scary, or classical and sophisticated. This is where the preshow comes in. The Nevada Conservatory Theatre’s take on Macbeth started off on a strong note thanks to a grand preshow. The play began outside with a witch inviting the audience into the theater. The preshow continued inside where the witches are ending their ritual. This all came before the actual meat of the show and worked to get the audience in the correct mindset. It is design choices such as these that really brought the play to life.…

A critique on the main character in William Shakespeare's Macbeth. So foul and fair a day I have not seen." This is a famous quote by Macbeth, the antagonist in William Shakespeare's classic work, The Tragedy of Macbeth. This one line takes place when Macbeth and Banquo are returning from their victory in battle over the Norwegians. Following this quote further it could be looked at in a broader spectrum of Macbeth's triumphs and failures. He goes from a warrior hero to a murderer, and lastly, his tragic flaw brings him to his death. When critiquing Macbeth the main points to look at are his actions, blind ambition, excessive pride, and lastly, his boldness and impression of personal invincibility which eventually leads to his death. See how he can be at the height of his life one moment and in his grave the next due to a few prophecies by witches and his blind ambition.…
