Strategy Analysis
One of the main reasons behind companies performance success in any market is that they possess a “Sustainable Competitive Advantage” ( Baraskova, 2010).

As per Porter (2003) the concept of Sustainable Competitive Advantage is related to “Strategic positioning” that considered to be as a source of competitive advantage. Companies that located at top competitive level are those which make high returns and profitability.

Hence, to allow a company to make higher performance in a competitive industry, it should possess durable and scarce strategic resources which are difficult traded and imitated (Amit and Schoemaker, 1993). According to Barney (2001) companies must recognize, make and maintain valuable resources that can assist them in executing their activities and in improving their performance in best or cheap ways comparing to other competitors.

In order to get a deeper understanding of the concept resources, a definition can shed some light on this matter. While a variety of definitions of the term resources have been suggested in the literature of resources, this paper introduces the definition first suggested by Teece et al. (1997) who determined resources as ‘firm – specific assets that are difficult if not impossible to imitate’. In comparison to Teece, Barney (1991) describes resources differently. He describes resources as it ‘includes all assets, capabilities, organizational processes, firm attributes, information, knowledge etc. controlled by a firm that enable the firm to conceive of and implement strategies that improve its efficiency and effectiveness’.…

“Sustainable competitive advantage” as a concept is rather vague. Much of the research surrounding the concept is debatable and open to various interpretations. (Coyne, 1986) maintains that “perhaps it is because the meaning of ‘sustainable competitive advantage’ is superficially self-evident that virtually no effort has been made to define it explicitly”. For an organisation, acquiring a competitive advantage is achievable but can competitive advantage be sustainable? Michael Porter who has put much effort into the conceptualisation of Sustainable Competitive Advantage characterises the concept as “the fundamental basis of above-average performance in the long run” (1985; 12). This view signifies his belief that to sustain a…

The unique skills and assets a company has to outperform its rivals are the sources of competitive advantage. The competitive advantage results from implementing a value creating strategy that is not implemented simultaneously by its competitors. The strategy attains sustainability if the competitors are unable to erode the strategic advantage the company has over them. The skills and resources underlying the company’s competitive advantage must sustain the duplication. The advantage should be such, that the duplication of product or service does not lead to the duplication of the efficiency of its operations and processes.…
