It is located on the south end of Hong Kong Island. The larger two sections are located on the headlands of Mount Nanlang, while the smaller section is located in the Huang Zhu Keng Valley lowlands. It is considered as one of the largest ocean in the world, having an area of 170 miles (2008). Organizations change and organizations compete for the same resource, competencies as well as customers. It is the cruel reality that must not be neglected by any management, thus the strategy as well as strategic management must not be neglected as a vital integral part of what managers do ( 2002,). This paper will focus on the strategic management process of the Ocean Park of Hong Kong towards their foreigner or tourists customers, particularly those mainland Chinese. It will first tackle the details about the Ocean Park.

References: The park is currently undergoing a massive expansion to be finished in 2010. However, there will no rides to be closed during the said period (2008).

This article is important for this course because firm ability to make decisions on how, when and where to target a customer group, use recourses, set objectives are all part of strategic planning for the future of the company and all its departments such as accounting, finance and Human resources. The first important thing we should take from this article is that Porter further argues that positioning is still a significant way to shape advantages within a company, he points out that misunderstanding exists to distinguish between operational effectiveness and strategy. The replacement of strategy by so-called management tools has been responsible why many firms have increased operational effectiveness but have been unable to translate those improvements into values for customer where profit can be earned and profitability be increased. Secondly, with rapid change in technology, organizations ignores it basic fundamentals. It is significant for an organization to have unique strategic position to shape the company and be able to shift smoothly in competitive market. Thirdly, an organization shouldn't purely relay on operational effectiveness as strategy replacement works only as long competitors not employing to same process and improvements but as soon those best practices are made common within the industry, operational effectiveness becomes mutual destructive and counter-productive.…

Organizational strategy boils down to two critical elements: how do I survive, and how do I prosper, in a dynamic (and often competitive) environment? Simply put, to survive and flourish, organizations must adapt to the opportunities and threats presented by their environments in their effort to provide value to their constituents. As a strategist, you must be able to understand your environment, know how your product or service satisfies the search for value in the environment, and recognize how you can develop and exploit capability differentials and external organizational relationships to attain your organization’s mission.…
