Stereotypes Of People In Poverty
People tend to get an idea in their head of how people in poverty should look. They develop these images usually from the things that they see on the television. If you look at a show such as Law & Order, the people in poverty are often portrayed either as “crack-whore mothers” or the common used term of “welfare queens.” Since we live in small town North Dakota, people don’t like to think of those stereotypes living around here so there goes all of the people living in poverty. If people living in poverty don’t fit the public’s image, then the public assumes that there just aren’t people in poverty.
