Stereotypes In Superman And Me
In the story Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie. Sherman wants kids to understand that stereotypes are not always real. Sherman describes indians as, “children who were expected to be stupid. Most lived up to those expectations inside the classroom but subverted them on the outside.” All indians were expected to be stupid, but that only applied in the classroom. Outside the classroom was a different story. The indian kids were smart outside of classroom the total opposite of the stereotype. This also applies to schooling today. If people do not believe in the things other people say then the stereotypes do not exist. The stereotypes might not be true like Sherman's classmates almost everyone is stereotyped but it doesn't need to be
