You need to take another run at the lit review. Toss what you submitted and start over. Use subheadings to divide it up into sections if that helps you stay on track. If you need an extension on the deadline, you may have until Friday, Oct. 9 at noon.

A review of literature includes many references to research studies or articles. Lead off with phrases such as “In a study by Watanabe and Compton (2012), they found . . .” or “The research findings published by Dupuis, Romanowski, and Brewer (2014) maintains . . .” or “Campanelli and Rodriguez (2013) conducted an assessment of . . .” or Sims, Gupta, and Zang (2015) agreed with Richter and Nevirosky (2013) on one point only: that women in STEM are . . .”
The lit review is a discussion of your research findings. The paper is not about the topic (in your case that means it’s not about women in STEM per se). It’s about your research findings on women in STEM.
The key to understanding this assignment is to understand its purpose:
"A literature review is an evaluative report of studies found in the literature related to your [focused topic]. The review should describe, summarize, evaluate and clarify this literature" (from What exactly is a Review of Lit?). Notice the definition stresses evaluation of sources with an emphasis on their relationships. Another word for that is synthesis.
Line out what various sources say based on the categories you have chosen. Identify when the research information has connecting points (synthesis) and when it demonstrates sharp disagreement (synthesis), etc. Organize your research not just by categories but also in a way that makes connecting the dots easier. Synthesize the research with transitions such as these: Although Lee and Huang (2010) found XYZ in their study, Robertson, McEnnis, and Horowitz (2014) challenged those findings in their study. OrSimilar to the study conducted by Rosen and Rickert (2012), Quinn and Olson (2014) . . .

    Females and males both perceived technology education classes as "guy" classes and females perceived technology education classrooms as dirty, hence “unfeminine”. Remote locations away from the core of the school building, sexist and dehumanizing comments from male students were all reasons stated by female students as reasons to not enroll.     The number of undergraduates enrolled in higher education in the United States has risen to new heights (NCES, 2012). Between 1999 and 2009 alone, US college matriculation increased by 38 percent, three times the rate of the preceding decade (Rosenbaum, Deil-Amen, & Person, 2006). This stunning growth is driven in large part by record enrollments of “nontraditional” students: defined as older, minority, of lower income, and often the first generation in their family to attend college (NCES, 2011). Their numbers have been increasing since the 1970s, while the “traditional” definition of a college student as young, financially dependent, and living on campus now describes only about 14% of current undergraduates in the U.S. (Attewell & Lavin, 2012). While the bulk of undergraduates engage in higher education as commuters, however, most research on higher education (with the exceptions of Chang, 2005; Pascarella, Duby & Iverson, 1983) continues to focus on traditional, residential institutions. Urban commuter colleges, such as community colleges and the new, for-profit career colleges, have attracted the most challenged segments of the non-traditional population (Baum, Little, & Payea, 2011; NCES, 2012). Compared to other four year colleges, urban commuter and career colleges have a significantly larger percentage of students below the poverty line, a larger percentage of single parents, African American and Latino students, and first generation college students (Deming, Goldin & Katz, 2010; Rosenbaum, Deil-Amen, & Person, 2006) that, taken together, raise the specter of growing segregation in higher education. About 72% of two year and 54% of four year community colleges are minority students, while minorities constitute about 80% of career college enrollments (NCES, 2012).     Mom was an aeronautical engineer before she was a stay at home mom so I fully believed that anyone could and should be an engineer based only on their intelligence and wit. The only way this might have affected my choice is in the kinds of majors my high school teachers suggested. It’s possible that they suggested careers that fit their perception of male careers, and I was very much influenced by my teachers’ suggestions because they are people I respect. At college, my gender has strongly influenced my success. I haven’t experienced anyone telling me that I don’t belong in engineering. In fact, I feel nothing but encouragement. In contrast, I’ve heard stories from my female friends that lead me to believe that this is not the case for them. I expect that this effect will only increase as I move on to my professional engineering career. It seems unlikely to me that centuries of injustice will evaporate over the next year or so, and engineering is historically a very unfriendly field for women. This will impact not only my success in finding a job, but also my emotional wellbeing. I can well remember the stresses present in early high school when I had difficulty finding other people who were cool with my love of “feminine” pursuits.
