From 1863 to 1869 chinese and irish immigrants were hired to build the transcontinental railroad, it allowed travel from east to west. On March 28, 1898 the Supreme Court confirms that the 14th Amendment gives citizenship to anyone born in the United States. From 1892 to 1954 12 million immigrants entered the United States through Ellis Island which is located in New York. The Statue of Liberty provided a welcome to the immigrants. When he was 23 he was traveling the world. When he came to America, he was looking for a job and to escape the religious troubles in Ireland. Ireland’s jobs were not good and there was a lot of religious trouble between Catholics and Protestants in the North. He met my Mom and decided to stay and work to become a citizen.
