Statement Of Purpose: A Career As A Physician Assistant
Working in a pharmacy has taught me valuable traits that will be beneficial once I graduate and become a practicing Physician Assistant. Since I began college, I have had to learn how to balance my time while working in the pharmacy and keeping up with an abundance of schoolwork. During my freshman year, I made the mistake of overworking myself. As a consequence, I struggled both socially and academically. However, after over two years of college experience, I have adjusted to this busy lifestyle that I will be accustomed to throughout the rest of my academic career and when I am practicing medicine.
In addition to time management skills, working in a pharmacy has taught me patience and understanding under stressful circumstances. The pharmacy I work at is considerably busy; I am constantly working on several tasks at once. I frequently run into unexpected problems regarding a patient’s medication and have to put this above all of the tasks that I need to accomplish that day. Although this may be frustrating at times, I have learned to disregard the other stresses involved at my job and put the patient first. Motive is even more important. Personally, the biggest factor motivating me to become a Physician Assistant is that I know I will have the power to make a difference in other’s lives in a way that not many people can. Throughout my experience, this simple yet important factor, is much too often over looked in the medical field. Because of this, I believe that my motives are what makes me a good candidate to enter the professional phase of the program. Not only do I see myself in the future as being a well-educated Physician Assistant, but also someone who is passionate about their job and dedicated to improving the lives of their
