Starbucks’ Strategy and Internal Initiatives to Return to Profitable Growth

Starbucks started as a simple retail coffee store at the Pikes Place store, where customers went to buy coffee of the best quality in the whole country and also they could find in this stores thing as coffeemakers and other coffee related products. The main idea of this company was set by three coffee lovers that were professors at the university, so they thought that would be great to share that love, that passion for the coffee. The company was doing great with just four stores in Seattle. All the knowledge they had about coffee, roasting, and about the business they got it from the owner of peet’s coffee and tea who was a Dutch called Alfred Peet, that years after will be acquired by the big phenomenon Starbucks. Since the first time that Howard Schultz he just went into a visit because he was so curious about why Starbucks was selling many of his company products but when he got into a Starbucks store he just fell in love with the business, and his desire to work for that company was really strong and he knew that Starbucks was a big success in growth. He has had always in mind to make of Starbucks a company with a soul. From the beginning, when Starbucks was created the owners had in mind to create customers in Seattle that could like or appreciate the best coffee. This store turned into an immediate success having sales that exceeded expectations, in the first years this company ordered its coffee from Peet’s because the fact of being new in the market and not having relationship with any coffee producer creates a barrier that with the past of years you are going to break. The first 4 stores they had in all Seattle were profitable every year since their opening. At this time is when let’s say the biggest key player appear in the story of this company and his name is Howard Schultz, the first time he met the owners of Starbucks he got really impressed by all their knowledge

    In 1971, three young entrepreneurs began the Starbucks Corporation in Seattle Washington. Their key goal was to sell whole coffee beans. Soon after, Starbucks began experiencing huge growth, opening five stores all of which had roasting facilities, sold coffee beans and room for local restaurants. In 1987, Howard Schultz bought Starbucks from its original owners for $4 million after expanding Starbucks by opening three coffee bars.     Three Seattle entrepreneurs started the Starbucks Corporation in 1971the name comes from Herman Melville 's Moby Dick. Their prime product was the selling of whole bean coffee in one Seattle store. By 1982, this business had grown tremendously into five stores selling the coffee beans, a roasting facility, and a wholesale business for local restaurants. Howard Schultz, a marketer, was recruited to be the manager of retail and marketing. He brought new ideas to the owners, but was turned down.
