In the star wars universe there is a character named C-3PO he is a robot who follow the main characters around on their dangerous adventures. C-3PO being a smart and not a capable character supplies comic relief to the viewer, he bering not very strong is a bit of a worry-wart. He tells us how difficult the heroes goals are by reminding us of the odds, and if they achieve the goal it makes it seem that much more of a miracle. An effective comic relief character will be easy to relate to C-3PO is easy to relate to, not because i'm a robot but i don't have all these powers the heroes have.
