Stalis L3 Diploma Unit 8 Health & Safety Assignment
LO1 Understand how to plan and provide environments and services that support children and young people’s health and safety.

(1.1) Describe the factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environments and services.
A Risk Assessment on behalf of BMBC would be undertaken by the appointed Assessor at Lacewood School, Diane Lassu to consider first aid provision and accident risk while providing indoor, outdoor activities and outings. Factors to consider are; means of transport, nature of activities pupils are to be involved in, estimated time for emergency services to arrive and whether the visit is to a remote location with or without their own first aid provision. The risk assessment that would be undertaken is in its very nature, a response to a number of variables, so it is impossible to cover everything, but examples would be; i. Low Risk – Walking a class from school to a nearby building.
A mobile phone would be taken as a risk management control measure by staff as in case of accident e.g. road traffic collision it would be imperative to be able to summon the emergency services asap. ii. Medium Risk – After-school Sports Club
The case of personal injury is higher than the previous example, so first aid provision is to be readily available and the member of staff taking the club should hold a first aid certificate. iii. High Risk – An adventurous activity where the group leader is school staff. To take this class the staff member would have to hold a first aid certificate which was nationally recognised, they should have to carry an appropriate first aid kit throughout the activity and a vehicle used to transport the group should have a first aid kit also.

(1.2) Explain how health and safety is monitored and maintained and how people in the work setting are made aware of risks and hazards and encouraged to work safely.
In my setting H&S is monitored by regular staff meetings with updates
