Stadium and Target Audience
Sumo Wrestler Ad
I. Toothpaste is a generic item that most people use twice a day if not once. Our product, Illuminate, is a new kind of toothpaste. It uses an all new formula unlike any of the other toothpastes on the self. It whitens teeth faster and better than any other leading toothpaste. This ad will be advertising both the gel and paste. II. This ad will appeal to the boys section of this target audience. They are boys from ages 12 to 18. We are targeting the boys for this ad because it is half of our target audience. III. This ad will be emphasizing the whitening power of the toothpaste because a lot of boys use toothpaste because it whitens their teeth. IV. It uses humor which all the surveyors had in common when asking what their favorite ads/commercials are. It also uses self-empowerment which relates to boys because they want to feel strong, confident, and successful. That plays a role in their needs of respect from others, confidence, achievement, and self-esteem. It also uses risk and edginess because it is a small boy going up against a hug wrestler or boxer. Boys are huge risk takers at this age (12-18) so this is relatable to them in that way. It could even use a celebrity endorsement, like a famous boxer/wrestler. V. A small little boy or girl is in the ring or on the mat about to fight a huge (sumo) wrestler or boxer. The small kid is turned around though looking at the camera and smiling. His teeth are shining bright because he/she used the toothpaste. This shows how if you use this toothpaste you will have the confidence and empowerment to do anything, even fight a sumo wrestler. It is also humorous which the target audience likes. It is dark around the arena/mat so it looks more clean and professional because our logo is clean and simple too. VI. “He/she used Illuminate this morning” That shows that if you use Illuminate then you will have the strength to face your fear. Also it shows how his teeth are white from it. *

This commercial relays its’ message through the incorporation of humor, rather then stating in a matter of fact method. It cleverly points out several benefits of using the product by the characterization of the good-looking male and ideal settings in the background. The main goal of the commercial comes to be that using Old Spice allows men to obtain what is presented as the unattainable such as “tickets to that thing you love” and diamonds for women. The commercial targets men in the age group between twenty and thirty. It does not specifically target a rich clientele, but makes Old Spice seen as a product that is available for all males.
