Sanchez A 1 Stack and Build wooden blocks are blocks that are made of natural wooden blocks. The building blocks come in a set of 50 pieces that include a variety of shapes. Children build all sorts of different things with the blocks and play with them in infinite ways. This toy is intended to be played by children who are four years old but is recommended for children ages 3-6. The different shapes and sizes of the blocks make them developmentally appropriate. When using the wooden blocks the children are developing logical thinking and planning skills they are working on their gross motor skills and they are using their imagination through creative play. By playing with blocks children can also learn shapes, sizes and patterns. Building blocks can fall into the three domains of psychological development biosocial, cognitive, and psychosocial. Blocks fall into the biosocial development because the children’s brains need to be mature enough to play with them. When children play with blocks they problem solve which is part of biosocial development as well as cognitive development. This toy is also part of cognitive development because children can use fantasy and make believe, and can be build something out of their imagination. They can compare sizes; they can classify the blocks by sizes or shapes. Children can build psychosocial development by playing with blocks because they are developing prosocial behaviors such as sharing, helping, negotiating, and empathizing with other children. Blocks can build frustration and tolerance and it will help the child with overcoming failure.

Sanchez A 2

Wooden blocks can stimulate children of all ages not just the target age. Blocks stimulate children by encouraging them to be creative and think. Blocks are a great toy for a child’s stimulation because there’s no right way or wrong

Play is extremely important for the development of children. It is important that from a young age children play with things like toys and even with other children. Between the ages of 0 – 3 is when children develop the most. Through play children can improve their fine and gross motor skills by using toys such as shape sorters and using musical tables which have buttons and things to turn. This helps to develop fine motor skills. If children have toys that are spread out whilst playing then it will encourage them to either crawl or try to walk to retrieve the toys that they want to play with. Also playing with toys such as shape sorters can also help with intellectual development as children begin to become more aware of which shape is which, They may not know what they are called but they begin to recognise a pattern in the shapes and which hole they need to sort them into. Also play provides opportunities for parents/carers/peers to praise the child and this will improve their self-esteem. It is also important for children to play with other children as this will teach them to share and also they will learn to manage their own feelings as parents cannot always be there to remind children to share so the child will have to figure it out on their own sometimes in…

When a child is cognitively delayed caregivers/teachers must try to incorporate the child’s level of ability (Allen, Paasche, Langford, and Nolan, 2006). Several ways to help the child during free play time are the caregivers/teachers have to break down the activity, and go through it step by step in order to help the child complete the task (Allen et al., 2006). The teacher must try to use different types of activities such as, music, movement, and sensory materials. Help the child in these different activities by showing them and interacting with them (Allen et al., 2006). The materials should be easy to use and keeps the child’s interest such as, easy puzzles, crayons, and pictures of everyday things (Allen et al., 2006). An example of an activity the teacher can do is Sand and Water Play, where the child can first hand see the changes of the materials used. They can also make their own hypothesis, this way they open their imagination and start to think (Koralek, Newman, Colker, 1995).…
