Who is St. Teresa Margaret of the Sacred Heart? Though not commonly known, St. Teresa Margaret lived out a wonderful spiritual life and devoted herself completely to God. Her short life contained numerous occasions of signs by God and the saints that were in Heaven of what she should do. She had listened to the callings which resulted in her in having a holy and dedicated life which earned her the title of becoming a saint. St. Teresa Margaret of the Sacred Heart devotion to God remained throughout her early life, during schooling, and when a Sister in the Carmel in Florence.
Anna Maria was born on July 15th, 1747 and baptized the next day on the feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She was the second of fourteen children, born to the family …show more content…
Teresa Margaret had to adjust her times in adoration because she decided that she would try to not bring any attention to herself and be like the other students. She did keep her adoration mostly hidden, but her devotion to the God and the Sacred Heart were obvious to her teachers (nuns). They recognized her bliss in the Tabernacle and sometimes even tears when others would receive Holy Communion. They took her attitude toward prayer and God as a sign that St.Teresa Margaret of the Sacred Heart was allowed to receive the Eucharist a year earlier. Teresa Margaret applied to enter the Carmel in Florence and made plans to leave the school early. She entered on September 1, 1764, taking the name Teresa Margaret of the Heart of Jesus. St. Teresa Margaret later Clothed in Carmelite habit and given the title Sister Teresa Margaret of the Sacred Heart. While a nun, she was given acceptance in caring for an older nun (who later died in 1766). When winter approached, and the community suffered from a severe epidemic of influenza which gave St. Teresa Margaret an opportunity to care for more people. She continued care for others until her sudden death when she was of the age of only 22 on March 7th, 1770 which was caused by a strangulated hernia. When dead her body was discolored, but as the procession continued to the chapel, her natural colour returned and within two days her body appeared as if she was sleeping.
St. Teresa Margaret of the Sacred Heart lived out an inspiring life for those of the Catholic faith because of her devotion to God and others (while nun). People seemed to recognize it too because Pope Pius XI canonised St. Teresa Margaret on March 19th 1934. Her feast day lays on September 1st and also her body still rests in the Carmelite Church.
