+Delay in SSC result may render 39,000 posts invalid
8 February 2013 statesman news service
KOLKATA, 8 FEB: Due to the delay in the publication of the School Service Commission result as many as 39,500 posts of assistant teachers may get abolished, apprehends a section of academics.
In an interim order yesterday the High Court said that the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) must appoint trained candidates prior to the untrained candidates. While the WBSSC is in the process of evaluating the subject papers of the TET-qualified candidates, this order is supposed to delay the publication of the result. “If the process is not completed within 31 March, this year, 39,500 newly-created posts under the provision of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act will become invalid,” said an official of the school education department.
The WBSSC had decided to allot extra marks for the trained candidates. But, the BEd trained candidates moved to the court demanding prior appointment. “In that case, the trained candidates will be the worst sufferers as then we will preference will be given to BEd degree holders from NCTE approved over those candidates whose institutions are not NCTE approved,” said an official of the West Bengal School Service Commission.
The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) gives affiliation to teachers’ training institutes.
According to the existing norm, those who have acquired BEd degrees from institutions not approved by NCTE must have 50 per cent marks in graduation and for those who have completed BEd from NCTE-approved institution must have 40 per cent in graduation. “Many do not have this 50 per cent in graduation. Since we did not discriminate between trained and untrained candidates, we overlooked this issue of NCTE approval. But now we will have to go into the details and cancel the candidature of those who do not have 50 per cent in graduation and obtained BEd degrees from institutions not
